I think that you need to relax.
I think that most Christians would think that Harry Potter is a big no mostly because of the witchcraft. Which is something that I am certain God hates. You don't think that it can be a bad influence on particularly younger people?I am relaxed, doesn't mean I'm not embarrassed that Christians make these huge jumps in logic with things like this and then claim that such trite is perfectly acceptable.

Perhaps that is what makes these sorts of shows so captivating, how mystical and magical it is and of course not real. I believe that these films like anything can harm our walk with God, and we all ought to be careful. You do realize that a lot of secular stories from time immemorial have had fantastic and therefore not realistic elements incorporated into them? The Arthurian legend, Shakespere (unless of course you think that The Tempest is based on total reality), stories like Star Wars or indeed most science fiction and or fantasy.
Guess what. I don't think that lightsabers are real or that I can toss people around with my mind, or think that a wizard helped save a fledgling England and so on. That's called common sense and critical analysis.
What your suggesting is that we all need to stop using our common sense and critical analysis from a rather flawed, heterodoxical reading of the Bible to support an equally flawed and rather baffling theory.

I would imagine that Harry Potter would have more of a spiritual impact rather than physical like alcohol abuse.Anything could, not just a story. Heck, we have bigger problems in the world we live in with things like alcoholism, drug abuse, and so on leading people astray. A book, or a card game is hardly Satanic, and is a much less harmful product then what is actually out in society right now.
But, of course, we must skew the Bible to apply a teaching to something that it doesn't actually fit with.

I think it all fits very well. The Bible clearly states how witchcraft and divination amongst many other things are wrong. The problem is that Harry Potter supports the things that God himself strives to fight against.
I understand where you are coming from and In fact to an extent I even agree with you. But we cannot ignore the fact that a show like Harry Potter is going to affect a child spiritually. I would imagine that Satan's plan is to captivate the youth including myself, into this magical world escaping reality whilst making witchcraft seem so innocent.Because the element in that story is Magic? As opposed to the Force in Star Wars, or Biotics in games like Mass effect. It's a story telling element. And the end of the day, and I'm no a fan of the Potter series myself, is that good triumphs over a pervasive evil, which is as much a common element within most stories or even the Bible itself. So you have issues with the storytelling element? Ok. I don't like the story that much either. Cause I thought it juvenile, not because I thought that it was somehow replacing the teachings of Christ.
but because the story telling aspect is as fantastical as the Force or any other element in other pieces of secular fiction. You think it is actively teaching people how to use an element that doesn't work at all? Funny...

You say that it is just a story, fantasy, made up. But in an 8 year old's mind, could you say the same?
I don't know the background of Yu-gi-Oh, but it does having a conditioning factor to it, that I would be careful of. Sometimes evil is not in your face, but it trains you to be comfortable with evil. So if you're the type of person that is easily impressionable when it comes to it, I would stay clear of it.
Again, it's a game. That's it.I swear "christians" take the silliest things completely out of context.
Read the posts above and maybe you'll see why I'm tired of being embarrassed by "christians" with similar mindsets such as what you displayed.

When I was 8 I read stories of fairy god mothers turning pumpkins into carriages, or a girl with magic shoes that could transport her out of a magical world. I never believed it was true but it was fun to play pretend.I understand where you are coming from and In fact to an extent I even agree with you. Ok so I played the Trading Card Game for two years now and finally quit because the game was too unbalanced and only the most expensive cards win games (I kid you knot when I say that people pay a hundred dollars or more for one card). So it's been a year since and now my younger brother and even younger little sister watch the show. They are really addicted to the show and talk about it all the time, which begs the question if Yugioh is an appropriate show to watch? especially since there's many occult themes and summonings, sacrificing, etc.

You know.. we read many things we listen to so much music and watch so many other things. Now.. many are not evil what so ever. But still they are not God. They have no life in them..as Jesus would say. So they do nothing to help point to Christ. Everything in Heaven is alive and sings HIS praises.
And I believeyou know the answer to your question already
