  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Despite all the warnings some give about peppermint and pregnancy, there has never been one documented case of peppermint causing a miscarraige.

The only reason peppermint goes on the 'banned list' for some is simply because theraputic peppermint essential oil (the medicinal kind, carefully extracted and VERY concentrated) is sometimes used to help women regulate crazy periods. So, the thought goes that since it helps some regulate their cycles, it might make pregnant women's bodies want to have a menstrual cycle.

That is only the thought, though. And I don't think it makes sense, personally. If it stimulates the body in a way that helps a women's hormones pull together and regulate, I think it would merely do the same for a pregnant women--helping her hormones stay regulated and balanced in the way that a pregnant woman's should. I've even used medicinal concentrated peppermint for morning sickness (and it worked INSTANTLY, btw), though that may not be something others would be comfortable with. I've never had a problem with it, obviously!

That all being said, the type of peppermint used in your facial mask, as well as in candy canes, chapsticks, etc., is NOT medicinal essential peppermint oil at all, but food grade (or merely aromatic grade). In other words, it's not going to do anything crazy whatsover--it doubtfully has any medicinal properties at all, due to the processing methods. Same goes with peppermint tea (great for nausea control, and indegestion, as is spearmint). The amount of medicinal peppermint oil in a tea bag is miniscule. So even if medicinal peppermint is a real concern, most products containing peppermint flavoring or aroma don't have any medicinal peppermint to speak of. :) Some of the benefits will still be there--the anti-nausea aid, the digestion aid, etc, but none of the "hormone-balancing" properties.

There. Was that enough Peppermint Trivia for you, or would you like me to probe through more of my brain's useless information files--I"m sure there's got to be a few more fun-facts in there along this topic...

*grin*
