Weren't the Pharisees admonished for this type of legalism?
So how do non-Jewish Christians celebrate it today where it won't be a sin?He never told me that it was a sin . So , no .
The Sabbath was not originally intended as a day of worship; it was intended as a day of rest
Sounds reasonable, but there's one problem: If you didn't rest you were stoned to death. So for any law to require that the people actually stop all work, and instead take time to relax and take it easy, was a complete '180' from the way in which other societies had treated their people.
As Hebrews says, God's works were finished from the foundation of the world, so God's eschatological rest prepared for us is the rest of the seventh day, and that is the sabbath rest which remains for the people of God, which we are to enter into "today." Not Saturday, not Sunday, nor any other single day of the week. If today is called today, it is the sabbath upon which we are to rest from vainly laboring for ourselves and turn to God.

Is not honoring the sabbath a sin?

Luke 13:14-16 NASB
But the synagogue official, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response, "There are six days in which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day."
But the Lord answered him and said, "You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?
"And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this bond on the Sabbath day?"
Genesis 26:5 "because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws."
I think scripture rather goes further than just saying it's a sin. It's the essence of damnation. Remember, the seventh day rest into which we are to enter is not the seventh day of the earthly week, but the seventh day of creation, in which God may be said to have created rest.
You are confusing things....In Hebrews "His Rest" refers to the gospel. "Today" the unbeliever needs to enter "His Rest" in order to go from death (under the law) to life (under grace). The sign of entering "His Rest" is the 7th-day Sabbath as it points to redemption.
It also does not refer to the sabbath.Gal 3:17 The law, introduced 430 years later, does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise. 18 For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.
The law came 430 years after Abraham. So my commandments didn't refer to the moral law.
Romans 4:1 What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? 2 If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about--but not before God. 3 What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." 4 Now when a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation.
Since you are promoting the sabbath do you participate in such activity? Why not? Is the government keeping you from obeying God? Who is it you said you fear/respect?Very good observation!
Sounds reasonable, but there's one problem: If you didn't rest you were stoned to death.
Numbers 15:32 When the Israelites were in the desert, they found a man gathering wood on the Sabbath day. 33 Those who found him gathering wood brought him to Moses, Aaron, and the entire community. 34 They placed him in custody, because it wasn't clear what should be done to him. 35 Then the LORD said to Moses: The man should be put to death. The entire community should stone him outside the camp. 36 The entire community took him outside the camp and stoned him.
On what do you base this statement? You are confusing things....In Hebrews "His Rest" refers to the gospel. "Today" the unbeliever needs to enter "His Rest" in order to go from death (under the law) to life (under grace). The sign of entering "His Rest" is the 7th-day Sabbath as it points to redemption.
Since we are under the NC as Christians the 7th day sabbath has no meaning for us. We have entered into His God's rest notprovided by the 7th day sabbath. This is clearly seen in Mat 11:28-30."Under law" not keeping the Sabbath is a sin. In fact doing any sin brought death. That's the OC.
Is not honoring the Sabbath a sin?
If you're a Jew, yes. If you're a gentile, no. Gentiles came into the kingdom apart from Torah. Amen!
