Definately not. There are some wonderful non-Christians songs out there. Look at the lyrics and ask youself. What does the music bring to mind? Good things, positive things, or maybe things about God? Or does it bring about negative thoughts and such like that.

I'm not saying music that's depressing is evil. But if you listen to it -constantly- you will start to feel more down. Moderation is key. Keep yourself in check with music that uplifts you and brings you closer to God. But it is not a sin to listen to non-Christian music. And I would definately stay away from music that you know teaches bad values, and things that will only serve as a way to bring your mind down. It takes some thought sometimes, and it's not always easy to discern what is good for you and what is not.

One of my favorite songs is non-Christian, but always makes me think of God and how He wants us to help others in times of need

I am just wondering.

No, just because music is not "Christian" per se, doesn't mean it's sinful to listen to it.

Reminds me of this verse, which guides our thinking, and it can also apply to music too:

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, [1] whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." ~Philippians $:8

I am just wondering.

When you consider the lyrical content of secular music, there is no doubt whatsoever that it promotes the very things that Christ our Savior came to die on the cross for : Sexual immorality, degradation of women/girls , degradation of Authority such as Government and Law Enforcement , suicide promotion, overt defamation of God/Christ/Christianity/Church , and even promotion of Satan or the Occult.

So, a genuine Christian who wants to live for Christ which means forsaking the things and philosophies of our World , has to ask himself why would he want to keep hanging onto such things of the World when God says you cant love the World and God at the same time ? There is no doubt that secular music ..especially todays variety... it completely anti-Godly , of ill repute, without morals and values, and dishonoring of Gods very character/nature/and Person.

This very topic was neatly packaged in a two tape set called 'The Dangers of Rock Music' available thru www.ankerberg.com . It examines literally hundreds of popular Rock Bands over the decades including soft rock Stars that have made it to great acclaim. You would be shocked at what they are truly all about. It is worth the price of $39 total and ive shown the videos at my local church and in a Christian Singles Ministry .

To summarize, its only quasi-Christians (liberal .. meaning carnal) , that would embrace this kind of anti-christian music . Theres no need to , not with the enormous choices of Christian Rock music available that at least gives some glory to Christ and his love for us.

P.S. Im not referring to celtic music, instrumental music, etc...based on my post above. But rather, THE most popular kind of music today which is typically termed : Rock Music, Heavy Metal Music, Soft Rock music from Divas, and the like.

I am just wondering.

1 Cor 12

Everything is permissible (allowable and lawful) for me; but not all things are helpful (good for me to do, expedient and profitable when considered with other things).
Everything is lawful for me, but I will not become the slave of anything or be brought under its power.

What you allow to go inside your ears, eyes and mind matters. If listening to such music will cause you to deviate from God's ways or cause you to do things that LEADS to sins...then stay AWAY from them. They are no good for you.
Always listen to and do things that build you up in Christ Jesus

I think you know the answer to your question, at least in part, and are just looking for confirmation? Obviously music that promotes devil worship, or that is violent or full of lust, ain't good for your soul. I think even some "Christian" music is highly questionable personally.

But you are wiser than you know. The Bible says we all have a conscience. Listen to that gift from the Almighty. You will know.

Praying that you fill your life with music that will cause you to grow spiritually.

Not necessarily, no.

And some of what is called "Christian music" is ungodly too.

If the music is harmonious and teaches no lies it is fine. I don't hear birds singing about Christ but the music is still beautiful and uplifting. :)

Animals mate whenever wherever but never do we refer to that as fornication. Blessings
