  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have always thought of God as Eternal and unsearchable and all-knowing etc... I worship God in that way and I love to praise God in his attributes. I love to hope in a future with him where for all eternity he is showing us more and more of himself. My question is am I thinking of God in the wrong way because I come to these forums and I hear a lot of talk about how God is more like a great human. He is protecting us; He is our father and comforter in hard times. I know God is these things and I need to grow my relationship with him in these areas but I love to think of God with AWE.... Am I wrong or Does everyone Worship God as I do... Thanks

WRONG? I would not dare to go that far, but God is NOT human, to me! GLORY BE! HE IS SO far from being flawed, as we humans are! I stand in awe of Him & worship Him for His Attributes & His Grace! He is Supreme. He does protect us & IS, in fact our Father, we are allowed to approach Him as the loving Father He is & He is ONLY good to us! He loves each one of us. more & better than any human has ever been capable of loving!

Hello Friend, God is Awesome! The reason you might hear people talk about Him like He is human is because of His humanity while He was on earth as Jesus.....Jesus was fully God and fully man. Plus alot of people try to relate to God based on their own understanding and terms.......But God is ofcourse more incredible than we could ever imagine!!!! He is Mighty and Great and Awesome and beyond our comprehension.....but He is also personal and everpresent to help us, even with our littlest problems!

 Jesus Christ is Lord!!!!

Well our God is awesome, and forgiving, and His love endures forever.

But, I've always considered that we as Christians need to be more Christ-centred. Our Lord Jesus Christ is our God, our Lord, our King, our Saviour, and our Master.

These days everything has become God-centred, because of all the "We Are One" deception, that is trying to make all religions as "one", such as same god. I believe that we Christians need to be very wary of what is happening around us these latter days.

We need to remember that it's our Lord Jesus Christ who is coming is God.

Love in Christ

You are right to think of God with Awe. We should Worship God, as said, for Who He is (Creator; All-Knowing; Unsearchable; Majestic; ect...). We should also Worship Him for what He - Has done for us; Is doing for us; Will do for us & Gives us (Comfort; Grace; Mercy; Love; Protection; etc...).

So, you are not wrong for why you worship God. But, we can also Worship Him for All that He does & has for us.

It all goes back to where your Heart is. The Lord is only concerned with you Heart. When we Worship, our Focus should always be on Him, not us.

God Bless!!

The thing that'll really get you if you think about it too long -- He's both. He's God, and we're not. He is so far beyond us it's laughable to think about our own puny priorities.

And He's also a Person -- not simply a human, but a Person, striving to reach us, running to meet us at our worst, at our greatest need.

Both.

That makes Him transcendent in the greatest possible way -- He is both near, and infinitely far beyond us.

The thing you should remember is that Jesus was tempted in every way that any human could ever be tempted and yet He sinned not.

He willfully gave his life - even if you were the only person on this earth - He would have done it, just for you!

John 14:19-21 says: 19 “A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.”

How awesome is the relationship that we are allowed to have with the Almighty God!!!

Yes, you are to hold Him in high reverance yet you are to talk to Him about everything. He's a personal, loving God that has only your best interests in mind.

Praise be to God in the Highest!!!

MY FRIEND,

Perhaps it would be helpful to keep in mind that as Christians we worship a Triune God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--and i am not sure that there is any "wrong" way to worship them--as long as you remember that they are unified in their separateness and separate in their unity.

However, in your Post you seem to me to be speaking of God the Father, whom the Church describes as, "THOU ART GOD INEFFABLE, INCONCEIVABLE, INVISIBLE, INCOMPREHENSIBLE, EVER-EXISTING AND ETERNALLY THE SAME."

Jesus, His only begotten Son, however, is this God given to us in a form we can relate to and understand. As Jesus stated, ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN ME HAS SEEN THE FATHER. HOW CAN YOU SAY, 'SHOW US THE FATHER'? DON'T YOU BELIEVE THAT I AM IN THE FATHER, AND THAT THE FATHER IS IN ME?" (John 14:9-10) This human form containing True God as well as True Man makes our Lord the easiest of the Trinity to relate to and thus to pray to and, of course, He describes Himself as the one and only way to the Father--"I AM THE WAY AND THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME." (John 14:6)

Lastly, the Holy Spirit, of course, indwells each believer, and He is felt and worshipped in the quiet of the heart--which is why He is called "The Comforter"--"I WILL ASK THE FATHER, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU ANOTHER COMFORTER TO BE WITH YOU FOREVER--THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH. THE WORLD CANNOT ACCEPT HIM, BECAUSE IT NEITHER SEES HIM NOR KNOWS HIM. BUT YOU KNOW HIM, FOR HE LIVES WITH YOU AND WILL BE IN YOU. . . . THE COMFORTER, THE HOLY SPIRIT, WHOM THE FATHER WILL SEND IN MY NAME, WILL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS AND WILL REMIND YOU OF EVERYTHING I HAVE SAID TO YOU." (John 14:16, 17, 26)

Sooooo . . . although the Trinity is "one in essence and undivided", you will perhaps relate to the Three Members in different ways, and pray accordingly. Again, i don't think there is any "right or wrong" way to pray to God, but if you have questions in this area, include these questions in your prayers and they will be answered.

Remember that above all else God wants your Love, and the only "rule" regarding Loving is--LOVE! God will guide your expression of Love according to His will, and He is just as pleased with the babblings of a Spiritual child as He is with the erudite prayer of a theologian--and perhaps more so. MAY YOU BE BLESSED!

A BOND-SLAVE OF CHRIST,
ephraim

He is both.

As we talk about in our Sunday School class, God is "transcendent" -- God Out There. He is Holy, and powerful, and strong, and omniscient, and loving, and just, and merciful.

But God is also "imminent" -- God With us. He is gracious, and a teacher, and in-dwelling, and our guide and comforter.

Different traditions focus on one over the other. For instance, I was raised in the Reformed tradition (Presbyterian), in which the focus is very much on the transcendent God. God is sovereign, and that is the basis for much of reformed doctrine. That doesn't mean we didn't talk about Christ, or the Spirit within us. Without Christ's sacrifice and God's grace, we would be lost. But God the Father, transcendent, was the main emphasis of our worship.

In the Baptist church I attended in college, I "met" a much more personal Jesus. Imminent, with me, a friend and brother as well as my Lord and Savior. He'd always been there, of course. But the emphasis shifted.

Now that I'm older, I really make a concerted effort to worship and adore all the aspects of God. I ask for His guidance in recognizing when I'm over-emphasizing the "personal" and ignoring His more transcendent qualities. And vice versa. Knowing that God has three Persons helps me a lot in this. Praising, praying to, and studying each Person gives me a fuller overview of God, and helps Him enliven and enrich my day to day life.
