Is my son lost to me?

I have a soon to be 8 year old son with severe autism, The last time he was fully in my care he was 2 years old, long story short and I am being really civil about this, he went from my house, to his father's house, to foster care and now he is being adopted, Until I signed my rights away on september 28th, 2010 I hadn't seen him in 4 years, and I have not seen him since that day, when I did see him that day he did not know who I was, now I don't know if that's the autism or his father telling him I died or something (you don't know the father), I'm just worried that he is lost to me now.

It made my heart very heavy to read this. I feel for you, know one should lose a child. This world of sin is a cruel place. I will pray for you. I will pray that God be with you and comfort you through this difficult time.
