I am going to be confirmed Catholic...eventually. All if God's time!

I was baptized in the Baptist faith in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

However, I have heard that a baptism is only valid if the baptism was seen as having the same effects of a Catholic baptism(forgiving of sins, salvation)

I know my baptism was not done under those beliefs. It was done merely as a symbol to repeat the action only because Jesus did it so we will too....kinda thinking. No one believed it actually DID anything. So, was this valid? Would I need to be baptized again?

First of all, Welcome to OBOB  We're all insane, but you'll get used to that.

Is you baptism valid?

Yes, it is

As long as whomever baptised you said "N., I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit" then you are OK.

Catholics do not "rebaptise" (there's really no such thing).

If you are thinking about converting and are concerned, by all means speak with your parish priest about it - he will be able to do an investigation to check whether your baptism was vaild or not. But if they used the Trinitarian forumla - you're fine

Just want to add that there is a "conditional Baptism". (It is not re-Baptism.) In the "conditional", there are the words "If you are not already Baptized, I Baptize you in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." You see, we DO believe that Baptism does something--something very important, so important that surety is wanted.

Any doubts about your baptism will be handled by your priest. He'll probably ask for records. But, I've even heard that records in family Bibles are accepted. Afterall, there is only ONE Baptism.

If you have doubts about your Baptism- even if the RCC says it is valid- you can still ask for a conditional Baptism.

I have been on RCIA team and have seen this done on occaission by others in your situation.

Good luck and peace and joy to you during your journey.

Your baptism is valid in the Trinitarian aspect. :)
And I am sure you used water. :)

The priest will affirm this.
Anyone can baptize another [for Catholics tho only when the receiver is faced with emminent death and no one else is there.]

Enjoy your Confirmation.

Welcome to OBOB
