I have a friend and his dad is a full time christian he wakes up at 4 a.m. to read the bible and pray and when he was working he was in an accident and almost paralyzed from the waist down and now he deals with terrible pain from the back and he doesn't like taking pain medications because that will kill you slowly so he decided to use medical marijuana. He says that god gave us marijuana for medicinal use. Is it a sin to use medical marijuana I know that no one has ever over dosed and you cant die from it so is it ok to choose marijuana over other man made pain killers.

IMO the answer is obvious

hes chosen the safer alternative to addictive destructive opiates

think about it...the drug company's are basically selling heroin in the form of oxycodone and other opiates

Well I personally don't buy into the whole God made Marijuana to smoke stuff...
To me that's so not true, and blasphemous to even say so...

In a medical sense I really can't answer whether it would be a Sin or not...
I would think it would be, because it makes you High...
And because it's something that you can become dependant/addicted to.

I'm with AoDoA on this. God made all natural things and deemed them "good" -- presumably when used in their proper place. Marijuana is (properly) used medically as an anagesic for pain, and IIRC occasionally as a vasodilator, not abused for its "high"-inducing capability. I'm sure there is some abuse, but this is true for almost any pharmacological product that can be abused. Thereis an old ethical maxim that "abuse does not preclude proper use" that I think is precisely on point.

This is a tricky one. I know that marijuana, in and of itself, is not addictive. What people can become hooked on is the way it relaxes you. Another issue is the potential damage to the lung tissue. Just as with smoking cigarettes, any time you inhale smoke into the lungs it poses a risk of being not only an irritant, but a carcinogen as well. With that said, marijuana smoke has no tar and the average marijuana smoker does not smoke as frequently, or inhale the same volume of smoke, as the average cigarette smoker.

I'll put it like this - I don't think God created marijuana for humans to smoke. I don't believe any plant was intended to be smoked, it just so happened that at some point, ancient civilization realized some plants could be used to induce certain feelings when burned and taken into the lungs. Of course, just because something is used doesn't mean it is sinful. There are many herbs and plants used for medicinal purposes also, herbs that can be applied to the skin to aid burns and plants that can be ingested to quell an upset stomach, etc.

I'll admit, I have smoked marijuana in the past. I don't any more and actually stopped long before becoming a Christian, because I am a mother. Marijuana never altered my thinking abilities. I never felt out of control when stoned. I'd, personally, rather be in a room with a bunch of potheads than a bunch of drunks.

This is one of those conviction issues, I believe. Since this doesn't fall under any Scriptural command I think it would fall under "all things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial" category.

What about the probably 99.9% of people that are lying and getting pot "legally" just to get high?

Are they sinning?

I say No it's not a sin, but driving under the influence is or flying an airplane, or whatever may endanger someone such as operating heavy machinery, for some examples.

The smoking is not really an issue imo because they can make pills from marijuana which is where the future of this drug is heading.

There were some men in Jesus' day who knew better than others what the true condition of the others were -- the latter were sinners in the sight of the former. It's instructive to realize what He had to say about this.

It isn't a drug...it is a plant. The THC in marijuana is the "drug"...just like the linigans in flax seed is the drug...and L-Tryptophan in milk is the drug. BTW...we don't want "them" (Big Pharma) to make pills out of marijuana. We want the God-given right to grow the weed in our back yards. You can eat marijuana (Genesis 1) just like anything else. You can cook with it. It doesn't have to be smoked. They even make vaporizers now...no smoke involved. We need to get away from pills and back to raw foods as much as possible. The further away we get from pick and eat...the more man has gotten in the process to make money and screw up our food.

You just described the vast majority of legal pain meds. Are they a sin to take if you have a legitimate need for them as well?

No, medical marijuana is not a sin.

I see many do not understand that the medical industry which is run by the Rockefellars who in turn got the public to believe Marijuana was this dangerous substance that would cause one to kill someone while high on it. Now I will never condone the recreational use of it yet I also am against smoking it for medinal use also. It can be taken in pill form where it does not make one high. Yet has anyone ever thought how people take prescription narcotics and boil them down so they can shoot them ? And then they are addicted with no hope of ever living a normal life again as this addiction they say is different than others are. God did create everything did he not? But it is our society which gives us this mindset of Marijuana being what it is not. Yet no one looks at Narcotics as being worse. They also do not think how Narcotics decrease appetite and cause many other side effects. Where we would be in our thinking on this had the medical industry perfected THC where they have with Narcotics? One needs to step back and look at this rightly. .

I used oxazepam but stopped because I believe it was sin and I told my ex who was addicted to pot to stop, he said: What's the difference? They make that from opium. If this isn't a sin then smoking it because you're depressed would also not be a sin. I'd just go for Divine healing.
With my ceasarean they gave me morfine. I got reilly weird from that stuff and needed prayer afterwards.

We are called to remain sober to glorify God.
God has no rules about pain killers or drugs.
The journey to God's calling is a personal one
and we can't impose our standards on another's
journey to God.
