I'm curious what became of this, though if I remember right it's POSSIBLy early bacteria like life, but could also just be thermal events and such.

One other interesting posability I remember reading about, was one of the moons of either jupiter or Saturn, from the chemicals on the moon there should be a certain chemical reaction going off that creates a certain chemical, that chemical is missing, so could be something either eating it, or a novel reaction of some form that we don't know of removing it. It's one of the moons with I think like methane liquid pools, could be wrong.

Some people went so far as to propose the idea that the canals were irrigation canals built by a supposed intelligent civilization on Mars. Percival Lowell was a strong proponent of this view, pushing the idea much further than Schiaparelli, who for his part considered much of the detail on Lowell's drawings to be imaginary.
