Of course you're right. Not every day is sunshine and butterflies, but these days - knowing what I know about some men now - I appreciate my husband and my marriage so much more. Yes, his pursuit of other women causes me pain. It always will. And there's nothing holy about that behavior, but my husband is holy because he is a Christian. Maybe there will always be this trouble, I don't know. But, let's face it, he could be one of those posters on Dalrock, so I think I actually have a total prince in comparison.

Glad that your complete and total misreading of Dalrock has at least caused you to have a more positive view about the only man whose opinion should make the least but of difference to you.

Well I would agree with that by in large, although I think people should seek counseling before pulling the trigger on divorce because I think in the kind of instances of which you describe there might be some sort of underlying psychological (or even spiritual) issue at work causing them to act that way. If it were me I'd try to exhaust every avenue first before I'd ever consider divorcing my wife to be.

And with the atonement thing I'm assuming you're referring to the sacrificial system practiced by many pagan and neo pagan societies, such as the Mayans. This would make the guy's statement correct in the sense that next to the ruling class, the priests of these pagan cultures were considered the cultural elites....which is why they should just be 'happy'......but why anyone would suggest such barbaric practices as a model for anything is beyond me. If he advocates such behavior he really shouldnt be doing public speaking lol

This was Brigham Young of Mormondom who was in power at the time in his Salt Lake community. He was the successor to Joseph Smith. They claimed to go by the bible, in addition to their own book of Mormon, but he obviously skipped the part about loving the wife. The blood atonement was what was used primarily on women who complained about how their husbands treated them.

Life is full of trails and tribulations. Nothing short of God is meant to make us happy all of the time. Instead of constantly looking to the faults of others and allowing their short comings to make us unhappy, maybe we need to focus on ourselves and be the person of Christ God intended us to be.

No, marriage should not make us happy 100% of the time, but neither should it make us miserable. If both husband and wife would do their best to see the good in the other instead of pointing out the bad, many marriages would be "happy". Or if not "happy", content.

Here is the deal. Tribulations will come, but woe to him who is the one through which they come. Iow, sickness, and hard times are likely to happen, because of outside forces. The one tormenting you, and causing the tribulation shouldn't be your spouse.

If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
(Php 2:1-7)

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. While I am an advocate of religious tolerance, the Mormons I'm sorry to say have all the trappings of a cult. The way they attract and keep their followers is tantamount to brainwashing. They have there own cult society in Salt Lake. From what I've seen on doccumentaries, it is very bizarre. I would hope no Christians would be influenced by strange ideaologies like you mentioned.

I noticed your other post too. I agree about the problem of outside forces; however, I've personally witnessed so many relationships break down over those forces. The stress gets to them so much they end up at each others throats. Rather than team up to face the issues at hand, they end up becoming enemies. Its a sad reality that outside circumstances kill many relationships.

For the record, Brigham Young lived in the 19th century, and I do not believe that the Mormons currently practice any of that. There are some offshoots that still do, but not the regular Mormons. But I have to say, Brigham Young is touted as a hero by many people, and that I find disgusting.
