im a christian and ive been in church all my life. i got saved when i was 12 or 13. i keep hearin people say 'you might not remember when or where you were saved but you will always remember when you said "Jesus, will you come into my heart." or, "I excepted Jesus into my heart." or how you said it. I dont remember that! i dont remember sayin that. is that a bad thing or...what?

And something else. everybody has their thoughts of when the rapture will come. it honestly wouldnt surprise me if it happened in my lifetime. but everytime that subject comes up i get kinda worried and stuff. yeah, i want to go to heaven. i want to get away from all the cr@p in this world!! but i want to experience things like having a job and getting payed for the work i do. having a boyfriend (yes im 18 and ive never had a bf). getting married and havin' kids! im not bein' selfish. if He came back right now i would go with Him before i stay here so i could do all that! is it wrong for me to worry about when Jesus comes back for us. i know some people that would absolutly LOVE IT if they were taken up this very second! but im not one of those people. am i just bein stupid about this? do any of ya'll feel like that???

Sounds like great advice, BlueImpulse! Also, I would like to add here that I felt exactly as you do at the age of 18! I wanted to live! I did not want the end to come, no matter how wonderful it may be. I think it is only normal, in spite what others may say. I do not believe Jesus will be coming quite yet, because I have studied a lot of eschatology (or whatever it's called), and all things are not quite in place yet. It may happen quickly, but as of right now there doesn't seem a whole to worry about, except for the lawlessness (and increasing rapidly now) that is affecting almost everyone's lives. Yes, it could happen soon, but some how I believe you will easily see your 30s, and possibly beyond. You should be more worried about your future children not being able to "get boyfriend/girlfriend" or being able to live a full life first. Because the rapid changes happening to our society is suggesting that things are beginning to happen as the Bible says. It doesn't hurt be prepared!

If you get married one day, and later in life you forget some of the details of the wedding ceremony, such as exactly how you said 'I do', does that mean that you aren't really married? If you accepted Jesus, and meant it, and still mean it then you are a Christian, whether you remember the exact details or not. Once you ask Jesus into your life, He's there to stay - you don't need to keep 're-asking' Him every time you mess up. You do need to continually choose to keep living for Him and you do need to ask for forgiveness when you mess up, but you don't stop being a Christian every time you make a mistake, nor do you stop being a Christian if you forget some of the details of how you became one as you get older.

As far as the second part of your post goes, that's totally ok. I suspect that most young Christians feel exactly the same as you do. Of course we want to get a chance to experience all sorts of good things in life before we go to heaven. There's nothing wrong with that. Trust that God knows what's best for us, that He's in charge of when He comes back. We should be ready for Him to call us home at any time - but that doesn't mean that we can't look forward to long, fulfilling lives on earth at the same time. God may call any of us home at any moment, or He may not for a long time yet. No one really knows but Him. Just leave that decision in His hands and try not to worry about it. Worrying won't accomplish anything positive - it won't improve your life or give you extra days. But trusting in God just might :)

I'm tn the same boat exactly! I don't remember an exact time I said "Jesus you are my one and only savior," but I can imagine it's happened more than once. I've been a Christian all my life (with a possible exception for a year or so a while ago), and have never thought anything evil about Jesus. Even in my worst spiritual time, I believed him.

Same with the rapture. I can totally see it happing soon (though it very well may not). The things God decriped as happening before the rapture and definately happening now, though it's fair to say they could continue to happen for 500 years! I too havent had a boyfriend, and am not really ready for it at this point. I would love to go to university, get a real job, get married, have kids, and serve God to my best abilities... but if Jesus were to come back in this lifetime, there is nothing on earth that is more exciting or wonderful than meeting him and being able to live in the Kingdom of God.

God bless you,
-Stace

If you don't remember asking Jesus to come into your life, well then do it now! In fact, do it every day, thats what I do. Asking Jesus to be with us is more than a one-time event. sure, the first time is the salvation point, but the times after that are the continuing relationship between you and the Lord :) Just say it now!

This is a very profound thought! Thanks for sharing it!

I remember our old pastor in NC before we moved said something like you should be able to remember the time and place, etc. when you got saved. It does not have to be a climatic event necessarily but we should be able to remember. I did.

I think being saved is an ongoing process, not one moment. I think getting closer to God is a series of small steps, not usually one giant leap where you are putrid one moment and divine the next. My reading of Paul indicates this, yes he had a momentous event happen, but if you look at his writing there are numerous indications of it being an ongoing process.

Thanks for posting this topic Peggysue!

I've wondered about the same two questions forever!

And like you, I want to continue experiencing this life... the ups, and the downs. I wanna see how the things God has blessed me with early on in life influence the end of my life and how I impact the people around me.

and thanks to all the people who responded, it was all very reassuring to me as well. :)

It's only natural for us as humans to think about these things. I sometimes ponder these thoughts myself, but rather than worry about it, think yourself happy and just thank God for what he has planned for you after this life.

What we have here on earth cannot even begin to compare to what we will have in heaven, and as humans, we can't comprehend that, but just trust in the Lord.

God Bless,
Justin.

I think it is natural for young people to want to experience the good things that this life has to bring, and that's why we are also not very enthusiastic about death. Don't be overly concerned, just remember that your life belongs to God, and that our primary function is to worship Him in all that we do. Whenever he pulls the plug, it's time to go, but in the meantime He wants us to enjoy the good life.

I've been in this position myself. When I was very young I Knew the Lord. I remember witnessing to other kids on the playground, and from that age on I had a very strong voice of right and wrong (possibly the Spirit).

It was confusing to me when I first heard people saying "If you don't remember asking Him into your heart, you might want to do it now." Because I was so young when I accepted Christ I don't really remember when I prayed the prayer. Hearing that if I don't remember a specific day when I prayed the prayer was a huge stumbling block to me, it made me greatly question my salvation, so about a thousand times since I've prayed the prayer, though I feel closer to God as I perhaps RE-dedicate my life to Christ, I don't particularly feel MORE saved than before. Probably because I WAS saved before, but I reached the age of accountability when I was very young and thus, I don't remember THE day I was saved.

I think if you don't recall ever praying the prayer, or maybe you havn't tried RE-dedicating yourself to Christ through prayer then maybe you should, not only does it feel good to re-dedicate yourself, but it should take away all shadows of doubt that you may have.

remembering when you got saved is like remembering when you got married. trust me you will know its like being pregnant, it's not one of those things you forget

I think a LOT of people would agree with you, but saying this could be a stumbling block to people who recieved Christ at a VERY young age. you don't HAVE to remember the specific day you accepted Christ if you were 8 years old and don't even have a specific sense of the time or even the date at the age of 8.

The age of accountability is different for everyone, because God has a different plan for everyone. Maybe you reached the age of accountability at 20, or 30, or 40 or even 50, chances are that you experienced enough hardship, and had sharp enough of a memory at that age to REMEMBER EXACTLY where you were, what you felt, heard, saw, ate that night for dinner, but the memory and innerworkings, even life experience of a child are so different to be able to compair.

I agree that MANY people REMEMBER the day, time, etc, but as it turns out, people who were saved as children usually have a BIG ah-ha moment when they get older, when they see life from a different perspective and RE-dedicate themselves to Christ.
