is it wrong to watch certain shows?

We had a discussion at our Women's Ministries meeting last night that really made me think.

Our Sunday School Superintendent stated that it was wrong to watch any show that portrayed things that go against God's teaching, and specifically was upset about "Charmed" and "Medium", and said we should make sure that we never allow anything on our televisions (into our homes) that promotes witchcraft, etc.

Now, I am the first one to admit that we can surround ourselves with things/friends/media that can be a stumbling block or cause us to sway, and we should avoid anything if He convicts us about it. I just never thought about some of the shows she brought up as a problem in and of themselves.

I have even watched Charmed, not because I buy any of the stuff that happens, any more than I did watching "Bewitched" or "Mary Poppins". Now though, I wonder if I am not making a statement to my family by allowing these shows to be watched.

Any thoughts?

I think that depends on how far they carry it. When my daughter was younger I never let her watch some shows cause I did'nt agree with them but now she is 20 she can watch what she wants.

I think it greatly depends on how they present it. I have no problems with Bewitched, it was a silly show. Shows that present it as true occultic practice I have major beef with.

I don't think there is anything wrong with watching shows like Charmed. I don't watch it because I don't like the characters but I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

I don't know anyone that actually takes tv that seriously.

Mary Poppins was grand! I would suggest letting the kids draw their own conclusions about what not to watch.

I think you should try to steer clear of shows supporting witchcraft. In my house, we don't even watch Sabrina. My parents try to keep us away from witchcraft. We are educated about it, but from a Christian perspective.
