Scenario: America is in a war with North Korea, and Kim somehow nukes some cities in California. You are left alone with no food, and with only 5 survivors in your city. After 1 week, the group decides that one should be killde for food. A sorry lad by the name of Bob gets the shortest straw. Would you comply in killing/eating this boy?
Jetgirl said:If everyone was able bodied I'd seriously have a problem with that. I'd consider it if someone was going to die anyway.
I'd do it when someone was looking! And if they act disgusted, I'll say "Just be glad it isn't YOUR arm, buddy!"JimmyKoKoPop said:I wouldn't need to, since I'd have secretely eaten my own arm when no one was looking.

So if it's not immoral to eat cat (which I don't think it is), what's immoral about eating other humans? You still gotta kill them against their will if you wanna eat them, the only difference is, it's the same species that you are. While from an evolutionary perspective it wouldn't be helpful for the survival of the species, I really see little that would be morally wrong with eating another human. Not that I would, I'm content with venison and good ol' beef. I probably won't try cat either, even though I almost did once (went to a restaurant that served 'gato', I didn't know gato meant cat and I almost ordered a gato taco)
depends on the extant of animal rights type laws... don't know if it's all right to shoot your own cat, skin it and eat it (doubt that you can do that, but it also depends where in the US as well)... but there's nothing wrong with importing one that already prepared for eating.Jan87676 said:Is it wrong to eat cats in America?

It is ok to eat cats. Distasteful, but not morally wrong.
I would eat human beings in extreme circumstances. In the Heart of the Sea
is an excellent book about a 19th century whaling ship that sank, and the crew wound up eating each other in the lifeboat.
Great book. Once you read it, you too might say that you would eat human beings. Under the right circumstances.
I have also read that highland tribesman in New Guinea, and area famous for cannibalism, may eat people because of their need for protein. There are no large mammals as protein sources, they are too far for fish, and the local crops are low on protein as well.
SH89 said:Yea, good book. That was the same book/story that inspried the novel Moby Dick, correct? I knew paying attention in English would come in handy one day!

... can't find psychedelist's post... however in regards to his question... supposing the person to be eaten and those that would care about him don't mind if he was eaten, then the only possible way for that to be immoral is if someone/thing or some organization/group could enforce a moral upon the those who would eat the person so as to make eating a person immoral.Mr. QWERTY said:Why can't he?
The source of the meal is suspect, but lets get beyond that. If the meat was obtained in a morally acceptable way, such as somebody falling off of a cliff, and you are stuck in the wilderness, with no other food source, is the actual eating of a person morally wrong?
If so, why?
