  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it wrong to collect things?

I have a certain amount of DVD's and video games, most of which I've gone through and enjoyed, so much so that I went and picked up a few things surrounding the titles, like going out of my way to buy other seasons or sequels.

I bought most of them a while ago because they were at such low prices that I would get a bit more for them if I parted with them now. We came into this world with nothing and we'll leave with nothing so there are times when I wonder why I even care about these things almost to the point where I question why I should buy any of it which is pretty extreme for me.

Is it a problem to keep such things in my life?

I believe God would have us enjoy good healthy things in this life, but the key is to not let them become idols . Its true they will all pass away one day, so we need to hold loose to all the material things we have. But God wants us to enjoy life and such movies can be enriching to our life experience if they are appropriate and dont glorify immorality for instance. Theres tons of movies available that are very suitable for the strong Follower of Christ who wants to protect his Christian Walk. Regards.

I agree that it's not wrong so long as you don't idolize them or give them more importance than they are due.

The thing about "stuff" is that stuff has a funny way of owning US, not the other way around. We have to take time to organize our stuff, clean our stuff, protect our stuff. When you find yourself at that point of worrying about your stuff, it may be time to let go of it/them.

I've noticed that there are seasons of enjoyment. Things I once enjoyed no longer hold my active interest. I feel nostalgic, but I will never watch/enjoy/play with those things again. So it's at that point that is a natural time to get rid of those things so someone else can enjoy them.

i don't think there is anything wrong with you having and enjoying a collection of movies and video games. I think you can use these things to bring yourself closer to others, by sharing the experience of using them.

just remember, that you should want these things, not need these things.

God pretty much dealt with me in this area of my life of collecting things, not video games but just books and following pop culture, I lost the desire for the things of this world, and let them go, am much happier for it - more room for Jesus!

I can now give to others and money to charities that will help others, it's really freeing.

This verse comes to mind:

All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. 1 Corinthinans 10:23
