What I was always wondering about the great disappointment is the following:
When (former mason) baptist preacher Miller preached about the 2nd coming he claimed to know the exact date (which of course was wrong) many people joined the movement and rumour has it they sold their possessions and stuff preparing themselves for what is believed to be one of the most amazing events on Earth.
Now apparently these people were either illiterate or didnt know their bibles well, cause there were many people who opposed Millers movement by pointing out to the well known bible verse that no one know the day, only the Father. So Miller could have never been right whatsoever.
Many people opposed him and he was even kicked out of several congregations (so I heard) even theological books were written about his being so wrong. Still he clinged to his false predictions (they were false indeed as people were to learn lateron) and even didnt backtrack on his claims when the 2nd coming didnt happen, insolently he set up a new date, and I think even a third.
Well, people were disappointed. I think this was somethink like investing money in shares that everyone tells you are bound to drop even further but dont wanna listen and then in the end after you have lost all of your money, well you are disappointed, naturally.

But where am I heading to?
Apparently there were two kinds of people
On the one hand those who believed Miller and N-O-T their bibles (which is GODs WORD).
On the other hand there were those people who believed in their bibles (which is GODs WORD) or at least believed those who rightly warned them about Millter by pointing out to bible verses as the one mentioned above that Miller can never be right, since he cannot be above the Son of God (in the end we dont know if He knows the day even at this very moment, the Father instead knows the date, has always known, this I think we can be sure of). Millers teaching must have been seen as heresy, and why not, honestly wouldnt you call somebody a heretic who would come to your congregation preaching about a set date? Of course you would, I guess you would invite him to leave and never come back unless he backtracked...

After the so called great disappointment people had to come to terms with themselves and re-examine their faith and belief. Most of them returned to their home churches
BUT
some of them still couldnt believe what happened and sought for answers, and guess what they apparently learned the hard way about the verse that no one knows the day except the father.

Allright, I know, now they found out about the sanctuarly, the 'true' meaning of the 2300 days and stuff and started calling all other churches Babylon. Taking on the three angels message and invited everyone to leave their denoms and join their new found movement. I guess many people were rather sceptic about it. Like said you wouldnt invest anymore money in shares that have disappointed you and people who havent but have witnessed the losses of others wouldnt either.
Still the adventist started proclaiming the message of Babylon, being all other churches except of course the new found SDA church.
Dont get me wrong, but apparently it was right at that time to be wrong, to believe in something was strictly unbiblical.
WHere does that leave us? Do we really have to call ALL OTHER DENOMS except the SDA Babylon because they first didnt believe an unbiblical truth and then refused to join the remnant of that movement?
Of course this is not strictly true what I am saying, the calling out of Babylon came later, first there was even the shut door doctrine which even more so claimed that salvation for those who didnt follow Miller was no longer available. Can it get any weirder?? They believed the shut door for about seven years during which EGW was shown that judgement in heaven was more than halfway through. Well, apparently God changes His plans all the time, if EGW is always true. He would have already (so itwas claimed I think in the 1880something but had to delay His 2nd coming), well apparently its still on hold. Dont you reallize that we all had been planned and that the names of people saved have been written in the book of life before the creation of the world? How can God delay something, that would mean that all of us were born because of an accident, a delay of plans, and logically our names were added not before the foundation of the world but as an afterthought, lets do nothing then and delay it furthermore, so more people may be added ( of course this sounds ridiculous) as for me, how can I believe all those things? As consequence if EGW is wrong it must be right, if somebody else is wrong its a sing he or she is a false prophet and stuff.

Just btw I actually once heard a pastor preach that regarding the book of life there was another mistake, this time of gramatical nature, according to him it shouldnt read the book of life written before the foundation of the world but rather it refers to the lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world. Yep, that must have conviced those who read their bibles through the batchelors and whites...
