  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Let's say it's true that the Firschizleschmocks exists. Merely because it is true that the Firschizleschmocks exists, is that enough to make it reasonable to believe that the Firschizleschmocks exists?
No.

If Firschizleschmocks exist, as in proven fact, they simply exist. Belief is irrelevant here for a true or false classification.

If you equate Firschizleschmocks to something like True Love, a none tanglible entity, belief in it is a prerequisite. And this opens a can of worms debating if it even exists or not. :p

It begs the question of how (or whether) you know that something is true. But yes, it's reasonable to believe things that are true.

I'm pretty sure that this is the basis of philosophy in the first place. Differentiating (or trying to) between that which can be known and that which is believed.
