• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Does OCD exist or is it attacks from the enemy or both? discuss
Hi Lindros,
Yes.. OCD is a real illness/disorder. As far as the enemy is concerned - using OCD to attack us is actually not any different than how he uses any affliction to oppress, attack or discourage a Christian. OCD isn't a special or specific case of Satanic attack any more than being stricken with cancer, boils, or heart disease is. It is not the fault of the sufferer and it is not due to a character flaw.
Futhermore..... OCD does not inhibit or hinder the work of God in the life of a Christian. It can and often is the very thing that God will use in order to demonstrate that "His grace is sufficient" and that " His strength is made perfect in our weakness". It is - therefore - if we believe the scriptures, a purposeful affliction.
I used to say... "oh well... I suppose that somehow God will find a way to use me in spite of my OCD." But now I've learned to say "that God has been more able to use me, because of my OCD."
"I will therefore glory in my affliction - in order that the power of Christ may rest more fully upon me - for when I am weak, I am strong."
quote - The apostle Paul. (paraphrased)
Any how.. I'm curious to know why you asked this and hoping you'll stick around and learn more from the great folk on this forum.
God Bless!

Well I was just curious because half the board thinks it is attacks from the enemy and that OCD is just a label it doesnt exist other other say it is OCD. I think it is both. This brings me to another kinda off topic question...How do we know when it is from the enemy or just our ocd?

It all depends on what you mean by "attacks from the enemy". Certainly Satan oppresses Christian's and certainly he afflicts but not without God's permission. (ie. Job) He does these types of things in many ways - OCD is no different than all the other ways he attempts to thwart the work of God in and through us. But he has no power over our will. The unwanted/instrusive thoughts of OCD can never rob us of our ability to choose to continue to follow and serve Christ. OCD is a disorder and not a sign of spiritual deficit or satanic influence.
It doesn't matter whether God is allowing satan to temporarily afflict us with this disorder what matters is what we choose to do in response to that. Satan might actually enjoy us focusing on him rather than focusing on God - but I'm quite certain he hates to be ignored.
I'm sticking with Job and focusing on my Lord - "Though He slay me - yet will I trust Him."
Praying for you,
Mitzi

Hi Kimberly,
Good for you! Undertanding that this is a disorder is the first step in learning how to manage it. Then taking the stance that you aren't going to let it stop you from following Christ shows forth your faith in action.
God will see you through this.
I'm praying for you.

amen Kim. honestly, I feel as though while it is a sickness, the enemy can try to use it to his advantage. but you know, grace is right. we should focus on the Lord and not the enemy. I don't want to lean on my own understanding, so when all gets foggy, our feelings and assumptions, we need to look at the truth, which is Christ: and through Him we have strength, power, mercy, love, and compassion. I used to be so fearful that if God blessed me and if i thought a bad thought after, my blessing would be taken away. but my God is righteous and just and I know He understands and knows I have these silly little fears. We need to keep our eyes on Christ, and not ourselves or these thoughts. I love my Lord, He is good and able and forever =]

Mathew 12: 10 And behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What men shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then saith he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.

Look how compassionate our Lord is! He is truly just and righteous.
