• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it just a matter of time before.....

The "frontlines" are practically non-existent in today's modern warfare.

Women are out there, doing many of the same jobs as their male counter parts in combat support and combat service support roles. However, I believe what they are allowed now should be as far as it goes. CS and CSS roles are evolving, and hopefully the military, especially the Army, will spend less time focusing on pumping out quantity for these MOSes and focus more on quality (i.e., implementing a better basic combat training system for support MOSes.)

So, while women should not be allowed in combat arms, they should be allowed better and more focused combat training, just as their male combat support counterparts should.

In my honest opinion, I don't see that happening to the end that we would like.

I know they already have modified the Basic Combat Trainging course to include Convoy Operations and React to an I.E.D that are giving the incoming soft skill MOSes some kind of training.

However, the Army is short on bodies. I don't think it's no secret that they have lowered standards almost across the board for Entry Trainees to replace the amount of people getting out.

Simple supply and demand, I guess. We don't have the luxary of the Marine Corp to be more selective of potential recruits.

Got news for you - women are already in combat.

You're absolutely right!

They've been in combat for a long time. I was in the Air Force during Desert Storm and I remember the two women fighter pilots who were captured and became POW's. When they got back into American hands, they were court-martialed and kicked out of the military. Even thought they were following their superiors orders...they were still in a combat zone. It's a double-edged sword. This is how the military chose to handle the situation. I find it interesting that women in the military are on the front lines on the ground but, not wanted in the air. Why go through the expense of thraining them if they aren't wanted in war zones? I understand the psychological ramifications for women versus men but, I wish the line of distinction was made stronger. Don't get me wrong. I'm not a women's libber who thinks that women can do anything that men can do. I've seen first-hand that this is not always the case. I do believe that a man is more capable of seperating his emotions from the situation at hand. I've heard of military cases where men have died carrying out bodies of dead women but, have been able to leave dead men behind. I'm sure many people disagree with me and I can understand that. This, after all, is just my own opinion.

God Bless...

I was in the Army, and we had one woman who said that is was wrong that women weren't on the "frontlines" (not that that word means anything in todays warfare). I told her flat out "I didn't join an army where I would be on the frontlines. I can't run as fast, or carry as much as a man, and unless you can, you don't belong there either". That's my take on it. Because, once the bullets fly, if you can't keep up with the men, then you are going to be the first one killed. Today's wars have made that a mute point considering that the frontlines don't actually exist.

So true! I was an SP in the Air Force and the gear we carried was unreal. I don't even want to think about carrying that and trying to keep from getting my rear end shot off! I agree with you that most women can't keep up with the men and, their fight to be looked upon as equal to the men, scares me. It amazes me, too, that there really aren't any frontlines anymore. I have to admit that I thank God that I am no longer in the military and I pray for our guys who still are.
