Is it hard to be diligent?

Hello there,

I'am motivated once again to persue a task or difficulty with diligence when I remind myself to put God at the center of what it is I'am doing. I know you may have heard this a million times, but it's true. When we realize that God is serious about having all things done for the greater good when we do so in him, it's no longer just our own efforts anymore from start to finish, but God's as well when we take the initiative to make it "halfway" in terms of trying. Of course, God will not physically come down and help you, but I'm certain that there may be physical occurances around you that unfold when your mindset and attitude is also in the right place.

Diligence definitely is a difficult virtue to keep steady, especially when life is difficult at the moment, but God promises that no time and effort is wasted as long as we continue to remain in him.

I'm hoping you find that courage and strength to keep treading the waters everyday!

I plan ahead, but then I slack off during the time I set aside to work. I need help.. :(

lol. do you work well under pressure? When you delay things, the closer you get to the deadline, the more pressure, adrenaline. Some people like it and work well like that even though they know theoretically they should have done things differently. I don't like that kind of last minute thing for real. I know what keeps me healthy and my work strong so I work according to that schedule.

You've described me well. But I'm a junior now, I can't just churn out these big papers overnight like I did before.

I just accept that accept that this -- all my work -- is what I have to do then settle in. Surrender to it instead of wishing it away.

It's hard to be disciplined. But once I heard a quote that went something like this: "No one ever got any eminence, and no one, having reached it, maintained it, without discipline." Extremely difficult... but it has to be done. It is a characteristic that can be (and should be) cultivated in each and every one of us.

Thanks for your insights everyone. :) They were very helpful.

I'm a person who works better under pressure, but I'm training myself to work even when there is no pressure. The sooner a job is done, the better.

Discipline is one of the missing things in the lives of young people today. I've met teenagers who were so sure they could never make it to the top list because they believe that they haven't got the "talent" to get high grades or become a dean's lister.
