Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I wanted to ask whether it is better to be cold or lukewarm when it comes to your christian walk. In Revelations, it warns the church at Ladociea (sp) that since they are neither hot nor cold, God will spew them out of his mouth. What does it mean? And if it's so bad, would it be better to be cold than lukewarm?

In my own christian experience, I have decided that it is just way too troublesome to be hot for Christ all the time, and I fall into the lukewarm catagory like most christians do nowadays. Is it time I became cold?

I think it is better for a person to be cold than lukewarm. A cold believer is living an openly sinful life and it is easier for him to realize his sinful condition and come to repentance and receive forgiveness. The lukewarm thinks everything is okay but is really living a carnal life and doesn't even now it.

Yes, it is better to be Cold then Luke warm, but you should understand what is being said.

To be Luke warm: is to know truth and do your will not Gods will, to do crimes against the spirit.

To be cold: is to never know truth, or understand truth.

This is because those who never know truth will receive their chance at truth at the times of the resurrections. In otehr words a second chance(first chance).

But those who commit crimes against the spirit, they will not get a second chance.

I discuss the reasons of why in this thread(first three posts)

I think this is on the top of post #3,
Under: Three resurrections including a second chance
Yet another discussion: On what happens after death?

The idea of "cold" and "hot" in Revelations refers to taking some sort of drink into your mouth. He wants it to be "refreshingly cold" like a cold drink, or "nice and hot" like a cup of soup. He is not saying cold is a bad thing... it would be nice to be both "refreshingly cold" and "nice and hot".. and I think we can be! But we should not be "lukewarm"... as in soup that has cooled off or an ice drink that has gotten warm... yuck!
You get spued!

No, but according to many books, Laodocia represents the end times church, and it shows a church that is very indifferent to the teachings of the word. You should read a book sometime on Revalation and the different churches representing the different time periods of christians. It's good to understand that sometimes, the Bible isn't literal about such things, especially the book of Revalations.

As to the other points, are people here saying that instead of half heartily trying to follow the teachings of Christ and struggling through and falling, that I should just give up and just revert back to my sinful state so that God may help me?

And thanks to all for their answers.
