My son was watching this video on the web last night called 'Marty and Doug's New Religion'. Overall it's a stupid show about two guys that create a religion but the thing that bothered me is that they parody Jesus as some whiney loser. I know that the popular tv show 'South Park' has done this as well. Personally I find it pretty offensive and think that we should put pressure on these "entertainers" to stop doing this. Does anyone else agree?

I found the website for that Marty and Doug show and they have a section called testimonials where people can leave comments. I urge everyone to go to that site and let them know that it is not ok to parody Jesus Christ. Maybe if we show them enough pressure we can get that stupid site taken down.

To be fair all religious leaders get parodied, Muhammad does, Hindu gods do, Buddha does and Jesus Christ does. If it is offensive to portray one figure in a humorous light, it is offensive to portray all o them that way. And maybe it is offensive, but is it really right to post your anger on their board? It usually backires in the faces of people who do such things and in the end people do not have to actually watch it. I do not watch things that offend me (usually).

I have not heard of the show, but, IMHO, I think it is very wrong and offensive besides. I mean, why would you want to make fun of our dear Lord, He died for our sins!! Maybe it is OK to do that to others, but, the Lord, nooooo way, He is the almighty, the Prince of Peace and Lord of Lords.

I've never heard of that program, but from what you describe, it makes Jesus look bad. Such "humor" is, in my honest opinion, is some of the most offensive stuff out there. Yes, I fully agree with you.

I'm curious... is this supposed to be a show aimed at kids?

Well, they probably do not believe that he died for mankinds sins, that he is the prince of peace etc. I mean, not everyone does.

New favourite website. Great success.
But in all seriousness, you can only complain about being offended that Jesus is parodied if you're also against parodies of Muhammad, Buddha etc.

Agreed. The debate should be about whether it is wrong to parody any religious leader. Personally, I do not like that sort of humour as a rule, but I am not violently against. If you do not like it, don't watch it.

I thought exactly the same thing.

Dharma Wheel has a good point. Almost every religious leader is parodied, as is anyone who is famous. Kicking up a fight about Jesus being parodied would just make Christians seem petty and ridiculous to the rest of the world. You know, as they say, any publicity is good publicity!

i don't care for it, but i'm also not going to restrict a persons freedom to do it. i don't believe in policing non-Christian mortality practices. I want my freedom of expression, even if that means i have to allow someone with differing views to have their freedom of expression as well. I don't think Christians trying to pressure people or groups into shutting down because we don't like what they say is the best way to represent God. Its actually more likely to cause damage because it will only reinforce the negative views these people have on God & Christians as uptight, domineering, & controlling, or whatever other negative views they carry.

I see your point, as well. I mean, I believe wholeheartedly in speaking out and taking a stand for what is right and against what is wrong according to the Bible. I've done it and will continue to do it. But I am also well aware that I am powerless to force what I believe on other people; everyone has a right to their opinion. God gives everyone a choice (to follow Him or not follow Him, resulting in one of two ultimate destinations), and He will convict and work in each individual's life as He wills.

I am a huge South Park fan, and they have done this since the show started. I don't mind it. They don't make Jesus look like a chump, in fact, he's always the hero and comes forth with a lesson. It's just humor and I don't find it disrespectful... Jesus probably has his "Buddy Christ" on over it! If a show is extremely hateful with it though, well then yes, it's WRONG!!
