Your body is a scantuary of God, defiling it is a sin. But God does not forbid alcohol, he just forbids drunkeness. People like to reword the bible to fit their own sitations I urge you to read what HE has to say.

Turn to God as your comfort, your shelter, your refuge. And peace and fullness shall be yours.

hello im kinda new here, but i was wondering if it is a sin to smoke cigarettes especially the new electronic cigarettes which doesnt harm you.

It states in the Bible that your body was given to you by the Lord and that you are to look after it. It also says that your body is a temple for the Lord and that is sacred.

If you spent time making a model and then gave it to me, and if I left it in the rain for my enjoyment, would you be happy?
In that perspective then it is a sin. Smoking harms your body and takes years of your life. Those years can be spent doing things in the lords name and helping others come to the lord. But those things can not be done if you don't live those years.

Even without that perspective you can still look at those verses and acknowledge that it is a sin. I know that telling your self that it isn't really a sin would make you feel better but do you really think God is absolutely fine with it?

As for electronic cigarettes, which I've never heard of, if they don't harm your body in the way real cigarettes do the It is not a sin.

Here what are you talking about? You just stated that sin exists without offering any evidence. For sin to exist, there would have to be a creator of our universe and sin would be the violation of his wishes.... but there isn't a creator since all arguments for a creator can be boiled down to either infinite regression or circular logic, both being totally fallacious arguments. Therefore we can deduce that the concept of sin is meaningless.

Very interesting logic there. Although with my personality, and without God, this is what my view on 'life' would be. But I do have God and I also have faith, which is an important thing in Christianity. And with faith God will then do things to benefit you and others.

God ahead, pray for something in your life and see how the outcome comes across.

i personally have been smoking for about 2 years and im trying to quit. its not the easiest thing in the world. i still talk to god multiple times a day i think with the power of jesus on my side i can quit

To the people who are saying "Cigarettes are okay, save for the addiction part":

Where I have a problem, and where many people who smoke or do any other type of addictive drug have been quick to point out is - There are many things that are addictive in this life: caffeine being a very good example. Is it a sin that I drink Coke?

In essence, you are saying I can smoke marijuana because it has been proven to have no addictive side effects, therefore, it does not control me.

Working out is addictive. Running releases endorphins in your brain that can make you feel almost as high as any other drug. Should I know run or lift weights?

No, smoking is not a sin. It is however, very dangerous. Even the electronic ones that are supposed to be harmless. Nicotine is one of the single most addictive substances on the planet. It will alter your blood chemistry, and it will affect your brain.

however, there is medical evidence to say that it is an effective pain alternative when used in tinctures and creams and orally taken, nicotine is being studied for ADD sufferers and fibromyalgia pain.

Not only that, but it has been shown to reduce the problems with Alzheimer's, and somewhat reduce the risks of developing it in the first place. It has been shown to greatly reduce the chances of developing Parkinson's. And it has some promise in dealing with some forms of depression. Nicotine has also shown some promise in dealing with some forms of intestinal ulcers.

The smoke juice used in the e-digs may or may not be a problem. If one is going to use them, get the ones that use glycerin instead of propylene glycol in the chemistry. V2 and Blu Cigs are brands that use glycerine, though I am sure their are more lessor known brands. The original e-cigs were developed in China, and most of the brands that rely on total Chinese sourcing still use propylene glycol. It pays to do one's research.

As an ex-smoker, I can tell you it is a sin. You are torturing your body (remember you have the holy spirit in you), for absolutely no gain. There is NO benefit to smoking. None.

Whether or not it is a sin, if no good can come from it, why start it? I know of no smoker who does not regret the habit even if just for the $$ gone up in smoke

Look, implying that smoking is a sin, based on how one treats their body, is a slippery slope of legalism. Should we then not also say the consuming margarine is a sin? After all, it has been shown that hydrogenated vegtable oils are harmful to one's heart and circulatory system. High fructose corn syrup has been shown to trigger the brain into not thinking that the stomach is full. And nicotine has been shown to have some beneficial effects. While hydrogenated oils will "choke" up the circulatory system, nicotine has been clinically shown to IMPROVE the circulatory system.

On those things, that are clearly and unambiguous in scripture, that one is instructed to not do, I have no problem with. Those things that are NOT enumerated in scripture, but some with an agenda, want to turn into legalism, I do have serious problems with. There are already a laundry list of things outlined in scripture that we should follow, both do's and don'ts. Why some feel to need to pile on even more and weigh folks down I have issues with. I concur that some things are not helpful and they are wise to be avoided. But piling on the guilt trips on folks by their lifestyle choices are de facto sins, that are not directly condemned in scripture is taking things to extremes. It sure doesn't take much effort once we head down that road to find just about everything that folks do or consume can be construed as sinful.

Keep in mind, the Apostles, in the book of Acts when Gentiles were coming into the faith, gave only 3 rules for these new gentile Christians to live by. Can we not also somewhat limit ourselves on what we wish to pile on folks?
