The problem with being drunk is that it tends to lead to lack of control, and when that happens, what 'comes out' is often not our best side, or very pleasing to God.
But - it isn't a worse sin than any of those I commit every day - we are all sinners, but praise God His grace covers and forgives all our sins, and makes us clean inside and out![]()

Eph 5:18 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit,I don't think getting drunk is a sin...but just like lust can lead to sin. I believe that living a lifestyle of drunkenness (i.e. being a drunkard) is a sin.

Most people don't know what they did and said when they were drunk; so there is no way of self-determining.Then one would assume it depends on what comes out of you when your drunk.
Alcohol is like butter: a little is fine, but too much is too much. Drunkenness, especially habitual drunkenness, is a subcategory of the sin of gluttony.
And of course, it's important to remember that there are some folks out there who are, for whatever reason, simply unable to stop at "one or two sociable drinks," but must always drink to a gluttonous level if they drink at all. Those people do best to abstain entirely.
