CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The problem with being drunk is that it tends to lead to lack of control, and when that happens, what 'comes out' is often not our best side, or very pleasing to God.
But - it isn't a worse sin than any of those I commit every day - we are all sinners, but praise God His grace covers and forgives all our sins, and makes us clean inside and out

As Criada said, everyone sins.... everyone. And I don't think alcohol in moderation is necessarily a sin. Wine was a necessity in Jesus' time, drinking water straight could be dangerous because of bacteria, so they either drank wine or mixed water with wine when they could do so.
However, I think that actual intentional drunkenness is a sin, and Paul certainly thought so:
Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

For starters, drinking to excess damages your body. For another thing, alcohol disinhibits desires and lusts. The higher centers of your brain basically go to sleep when you are drunk, leaving the more primitive parts of your brain awake.
But as Criada said, we all sin. What we don't want to do is to try to justify our own sin as not being a sin, because then we have lost the truth. Unfortunately this is all too common, we have our own favorite sins so we try to define them away as not being sins. Like many Christian pastors who jump all over homosexuality, which is genuinely a sin, but totally ignore divorce, which is a major sin that Jesus spoke about at some length, but which their congregations might feel strikes a little too close to home. So they don't talk about that. Sin is sin is sin.

the funny irony is that if you get drunk, often bad stuff comes out of you as well...
Plus, when you just comment on one part of Scripture but ignore others, it's called "prooftexting" and is the opposite of how the Bible needs to be approached.
Since Ephesians 5:18 does tell us not to get drunk, Jesus' words in Matt. 15 can NOT be saying that getting drunk is ok. Otherwise, the Bible would contradict itself.
Hope that question doesn't linger around in your brain anymore...

The degree to which alcohol is permitted varies a lot from religion to religion. I don't see a verse, like "thou canst have about three beers..."
I think it's best to be in control, and if you need additional guidance you can always pray. That's what prayers is for!

Alcohol is like butter: a little is fine, but too much is too much. Drunkenness, especially habitual drunkenness, is a subcategory of the sin of gluttony.
And of course, it's important to remember that there are some folks out there who are, for whatever reason, simply unable to stop at "one or two sociable drinks," but must always drink to a gluttonous level if they drink at all. Those people do best to abstain entirely.

Then one would assume it depends on what comes out of you when your drunk.
Dry heaves are punishment for getting drunk
Many times it is not what one does but why one does does it which makes it a sin.
Drinking alcohol is not a sin, depending on alcohol is.

I don't think getting drunk is a sin...but just like lust can lead to sin. I believe that living a lifestyle of drunkenness (i.e. being a drunkard) is a sin.

Most people don't know what they did and said when they were drunk; so there is no way of self-determining.
Drunk people insult their friends, spend others' money, embarrass themselves with employers, get others pregnant, drive erratically, wake up in strange places, and then don't know what they should apologize for the next day.

The Bible doesn't condemn light drinking, but if we are living for God, and trying to promote His love and life in our sphere of influence, then it's counter-productive.

Well, it's certainly unwise to get drunk.
And the Scripture you quoted is irrelevant. Or does this mean any wrong thing, like murder, is ok? What Jesus was saying in that verse was essentially this:
If you have sin and do not repent, you are unclean.

And there are some - some - people who react very badly to drinking. But for most people, it's not a bad thing to drink sometimes.
