Is 'Freewill' really free or only allows us to sin?

It sounds like a Calvinist concept. You can never choose God, God must choose you because all your choices are totally depraved.
I'd go with what they said. It's basically going against free will at all, which is completely unscriptual. We all have the choice not to sin. Yes, God can help us to be more successful at this, but in the end it is our choice whether we allow that help and chose not to sin or whether we give in.

To believe that it is our nature, and therefor excusable is a way to justify doing something that you know is wrong. It is saying we are chosing not to make the effort to change our reaction to something, but rather give in because we either actually 'want' to, or we find it easier.

God would not have created us and allowed the option of sinning to be a part of our lives, had we not been able to have the free will to chose against it. :)

Maybe this text will help...

Ro 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

Jesus has shown us that by living daily in the Spirit--we are no longer slaves to our nature. Sin IS a choice--a daily--minute by minute choice.

Windmill--I agree. If we can get victory over one sin, and then another and then another and so on--why can't we get complete victory?

We were promised to be partakers of the 'divine nature' to overcome this nature. Now make no mistake. We will have these natures until the translation--but I don't see in scripture where we have to be slaves to it.
