Is everything "meaningless" without God?

synonyms of meaningless: futile, pointless, aimless, empty, hollow, blank, vain, purposeless, valueless, useless, of no use, worthless, senseless, trivial, trifling, unimportant, insignificant, inconsequential

I don't know how to break it down any easier for you.

Lol. Regurgitating a thesaurus entry isn't an argument. And this doesn't in any way refute what I posted.

So, you can try again or admit my argument is correct.

If there's an original true source of meaning then all other meaning is derived from that original source.
Why would I think there is an "original true source of meaning". That is not even coherent.
An atheist thinks he is the original true source of meaning because he gives his own life meaning, nothing else.
If I tell you how you think, and I am wrong, am I still wrong?
I'm saying that I exist and that I don't ascribe all meaning to life. This is a logical thing to say because there are others who exist that do ascribe meaning to life apart from myself. I did not give them the ability to ascribe meaning to their lives. God did.
There is more to "logic" than simply inserting the word into a sentence.
So no, it's not just me and God, it's God and all who He has given life to, me being one of those who He has given life and the ability to discern what is meaningful and what is not.
Did he also give you the [false] impression that you have the ability to read the minds of others?

In this nihilistic world that seems to frighten you so, why does the wolf pack not eat the pups, and instead feeds and protect them?
And why do you not pee into the wind?......Because it is not in your best interest.....

Very good. Even in a godless world you have discovered a reason to do something something, within yourself.

Ask yourself what gives your life meaning and then ask yourself what why. Then keep asking why for each answer you give. In the end, I guarantee you will not have an answer because it is meaningless (vain, futile, insignificant, pointless, ect)

I give my life meaning. Why? Because nothing else can. Why? Because that's reality.

Hmmm, don't need a "why" after that one.

I guess you're not very good with your guarantees...

The question was asked "what did the op mean by "meaningless"? Here is the answer. It seems that there are a lot of people who don't know the definition of the word "meaningless" so I provided one. I also like to add that if anyone read the second paragraph in the OP, it's context is provided for you. If you are asking for my own personal definition of the word "meaningless", I would have to say "whatever the dictionary says about "meaningless" is how I define "meaningless".

I didn't ask that at all, nor did it have anything to do with my post that you were responding to. Do you have a habit of posting responses to the wrong person?

Even now you don't understand something so simple.....you get wet and you don't smell very good.....

Did you not post this?

Nooo, the definition of "meaning" has no temporal component to it. If I give something meaning now, it has meaning. So it's still illogical to say that everything is meaningless without a god.

Let's say a man tried to build a house literally right next to the ocean. Let's say that it was so close to the ocean that every time the tide came in, the house washed away. Then, let's say the man did this same thing every day for the rest of his life. In your own words, what would you call the man's attempts and labors at building his house next to the ocean? That is how I would compare everything without God.

That is good enough for me, but in Jason's nihilistic world (post #70) why would that matter? Why care about getting wet and being smelly now, if a trillion years from now there is no one to care?

Does he derive pleasure from his work? Satisfaction? A steady paycheque?

Why wait a trillion years....for the atheist no one cares about you after you die.....what is there to care about?....you no longer exist in any form. There is nothing left of you.....nothing. For the atheist, once you die it is almost as if you never existed......you are, for all intents and purposes, forgotten.

We are in the same boat, you and I, in the absence of evidence to the contrary.

That you gave an example of a reason to do something in the here and now, even in the context of Jason's nihilism, was all I needed.

No! In the end he gets nothing. All the labor was for nothing.

The difference between an atheist and myself is I know better.....there is life beyond here which makes what we do here meaningful....atheists, OTOH, see nothing but hopelessness because they can only see this life.....and nothing more...

Why?

Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk

because you will and do care about these things. The argument that you dont or should not or would not is just a pipe dream, it's not real or any valid sentiment or concern. It's just something people say during silly internet debates.

Why do you choose to have children, family, friends, lovers, ect...?

Sent from my SM-N915V using Tapatalk

I did not choose most of those, they happen naturally and these things being important to me are natural. It isn't sensible to ask a parent why they feel committed to their children or to wonder why and argue that they could infact be meaningless without a god.

How so?
.atheists, OTOH, see nothing but hopelessness because they can only see this life.....and nothing more...
Yet you yourself provided evidence that reason can be found in a godless universe.

If you paid money for that mind reading apparatus, you should ask for your money back.^_^
