Why would we NOT be cremated? Is there any scripture that states it's "against God's law"??

My Aunt had her son cremated and then placed his ashes in my grandmother's coffin to be buried with her.

My grandmother was a Christian, but my cousin was not! I didn't think that was appropriate...

Anyway, any scripture I can read??

Scripture is not going to spell out everything, nor is it intended to. For example, you know Jews held passover meals, right? Well, the exact way to do that is not spelled out in the Old Testament.

So, why not creamation then? Well, because Christians are not dualists.

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with Cremation. Some Christians will tell you it has to do with the resurrection of the body at the last day.

My response to them is that God will resurrect people that are dust and have been dead for thousands of years. He can also resurrect someone who is cremated.

I think fundamentally, you question assumes 2 things which are problematic.
1. That Christianity is ultimately about a set of rules.
2. That those rules are spelled out in the Bible.
no, i don't think so. I'm trying not to assume anything here. I just wanted to know if there was any scripture about creamation. That's all. I just wanted to read it for myself. thanks anyway.

i did hear something to that effect...that we will be resurrected body and soul on judgement day. Does it say that in the Bible anywhere?

Can I ask you something, please don't take offense, why would you expect it to be in the Bible?
because my Aunt said something to me about it when my grandmother died. She said it was wrong for Christians to be creamated. And since I would like to do what Jesus would do, i suppose i wanted to know if Jesus said anything about it.

The problem with cremation is that it is rather...Gnostic/Manichean in its original intent.

The body is good and natural part of our complete being, not an evil shell that holds surrender our self. To burn it as if it were something of no consequence seems to reject our Christian understanding that the physical isn't evil or an illusion but benevolent, complete, and real.

Of course, that isn't the reason why today humans practice cremation, although I still take some issue to it. However, the fact that people are sadly sometimes killed by fire, acid, or some other dissolvent shouldn't be a barrier either. True, those things are involuntary, but the effect remains the same.

Not to mention that the body will naturally decay anyway, reducing even bones into dust.

I suppose the question is this: are you denying your complete being if you choose to be cremated? I err on yes but I don't deny exceptions that could possibly exist to the rule. I find it disturbing that someone who simply choice to burn away part of who they are. Yes, your body would eventually become dust, but why hasten the process? Are we so abhorent of death that it has become so unsightly? It is a natural part of life, and in order to live a truly human existence, we need a physical form, and I cannot reject mine.

When I die, I hope to simply have my body thrown into a shallow grave. No box, no urn.

hmmm... Jesus did not come to tell us everything.

One thing He did, though, is start a Church.

The Holy Spirit speaks to us when the Church speaks with one voice.

So, there are teachings from God, that are spoken through the Holy Spirit through the Church, but that are not recorded in the Bible, so we can't know whether or not Jesus addressed them, but we still know God spoke on them.

My sister;
I understand your desire to have Biblical answers. I look towards Scripture too as one of two primary sources of revelation (The second Being Jesus Christ the image of the Father)

Some here seem to bristle that others look towards Scripture and expect to find answers therein. Others here like me look to Scriptures first everytime.

To answer your question I am not aware of anything in Scripture that supports Cremation, nor am I aware of anything that forbids it. However I can ask a friend of mine who is an Anglican Priest who may have a little more information to share with you.
