both the Catholic Church and Protestantism historically have strongly condemned contraception.

were they right?

can contraception be linked to adultery, divorce, and other societal ills?

Historically? They still do!

And no, they are not right. They are causing a great deal of pain to many, such as by increasing the rate of AIDS in many countries.

Quote 5 Protestant denominations that "once" were officially condemning of contraceptive sex.

Otherwise, the entire premise of this thread is WRONG.

actually condom availability is consistently associated with higher HIV rates, even in the best studies

...which you don't cite, we all notice.

No, the RCC is rather silly in regards to contraception.

you are saying that you know that there is NOT a consistent association between condom availability and HIV?

all of the main Protestant groups--e.g. Lutherans--condemned contraception before 1930, as well as the Eastern Orthodox and the Trinitarian Church

Luther writes in his Commentary on Gen 38: 8 - 10:

Onan must have been a malicious and incorrigible scoundrel. This is a most disgraceful sin. It is far more atrocious than incest and adultery. We call it unchastity, yes, a Sodomitic sin. For Onan goes in to her; that is, he lies with her and copulates, and when it comes to the point of insemination, spills the sperm, lest the woman conceive. Surely at such a time the order of nature established by God in procreation should be followed. ... He was inflamed with the basest spite and hatred. ... Consequently, he deserved to be killed by God. He committed and evil deed. Therefore God punished him. … That worthless fellow refused to exercise [love; C.P.]. He preferred polluting himself with a most disgraceful sin to raising up offspring for his brother.

Therefore Onan, unwilling to perform this obligation, spilled his seed. That was a sin far greater than adultery or incest, and it provoked God to such fierce wrath that He destroyed him immediately

By all means, cite these studies. Are you really saying that greater availability of condoms correlates with higher HIV rates?

I'm not saying either, because some of us realize that making statements like that without data to back it up is problematic. I notice you still aren't citing those studies.

There is an association. The association is that the condom use reduces the chances, alongside other factors. Your not going to start that spiel about how condom availability makes everyone more eager to sleep with everyone else are you? Because if a chick doesn't like you, all the rubbers and sheepskins in the world aren't going to change that. Unless you...like...sell them and form a huge business empire and make a ton of money. Wait...is that an example of correlation or causation? I'm confused now....

Quote ANY Lutheran denomination before 1930 that "condemned" contraceptive sex. Quote, reference and date the denominational statement.

Okay.

Document that all main Protestant denominations condemned contraception before 1930.

Unless you do, the premise of this thread is baseless and absurd.

well, it is true that the divorce rate doubled between 1965 and 85 as the use of contraceptives spread

the divorce rate leveled off once everyone who wanted contraceptives had them

Is this like how highway deaths have decreased in the past few years as we import more and more lemons from Mexico?

Edward C. Green, director of the AIDS Prevention Research Project at the Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies says:

"There is a consistent association shown by our best studies, including the U.S.-funded ‘Demographic Health Surveys,’ between greater availability and use of condoms and higher (not lower) HIV-infection rates."
