  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is celebrating Easter wrong?

1 Cor 10: 24 Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.
25 Eat anything that is sold in the meat market without asking questions for conscience' sake;
26 FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS.
27 If one of the unbelievers invites you and you want to go, eat anything that is set before you without asking questions for conscience' sake.
28 But if anyone says to you, "This is meat sacrificed to idols," do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience' sake;
29 I mean not your own conscience, but the other man's; for why is my freedom judged by another's conscience?
30 If I partake with thankfulness, why am I slandered concerning that for which I give thanks?
31 Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

Those are even more applicable for you! Note that it is not for our conscience but for thiers in verse 29. Those are great verses for those of us with relative that are not Christians :)

I have thought of these verses too, about Easter. But then I realized that I think they are two different things.

The meat eating issue: Is an object defiled because pagan use it?
The Easter issue: Should we be incorporating elements of the pagan into the things that are of the Lord?

I think if you want to look at Easter from the meat eating point of you, you would be asking if it is alright to eat the half-price chocolate after Easter for you baking. If it bothers someone’s conscience to do so, that person should not. You are not taking part in the festivities, but using them simply as food products in a way that will know what they were from.

I think if you applied the meat issue into how we celebrate Easter, it would be incorporating not only the meat, but elements of the pagan sacrifice into our celebration for the Lord.

Why hold on to things that are not of God? That is all.

Thanks for all your responses! :)

My point in asking this was that I am COMPLETELY in love with my Savior and want to do what ever it is He wants me to. I love Him with all of me and want to please Him for that only reason. I dont think I will go to hell if i eat a chocolate bunny. I want to do all that i can to be closer to Him and know Him better-that's all.

I believe that anything that is about Him should be as Holy as we can make it. Just because pagan things have no power over us does not mean we should incorporate them in our worship or celebration of Him. Our God is a jealous God.

I think that is a great way of looking at it!
