1 And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. 2 I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. 3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?

16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? 17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

The way I understand it, "belief" in Jesus Christ isn't enough to be saved. True belief in Jesus will result in fruit that is evident by a lifestyle change, a heart change: that you want nothing else to do with the world that satisfies the needs of the flesh but really only care about satisfying God and being led by the Spirit.

However, if this is the case, what do we make of the first 3 verses I posted? They clearly seem to state that belief is all that is needed for salvation.

Can somebody please shine a light on this issue for me? I think how we understand salvation really changes how we live our lives and especially how we evangelize to others (in other words, if belief isn't enough to be saved, we shouldn't be spreading that as a final end).

While it is true that the Spirit of God spoke only truth through Balaam, I fail to see where it says the Spirit of God was received by Balaam through his faith.
Really, it was more of a curse to him than a gift.

Saved from is such a greek idea. What are you saved such that God can accomplish?

What does believe in Christ mean? I decided to just take the word believe and see what it says, it means more than just this, but this much is certain.



Mr 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
.................................(all things are possible, even obedience)

Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

And if you look at how he separated the sheep from the goats he said that “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’"

It's like saying "Oh I believe in democracy" and leaving it at that. If you don't actually do anything about it then the belief isn't real, but hollow!
