Bravo, Moriah!

I think my church (my particular congregation that is -- I can't speak for the entire denomination, especially since I haven't experienced any other churches in it) does an outstanding job of teaching basic morality, but not in a legalistic way. We aren't teaching rules to be obeyed, but how Christ lived and what he taught. We aren't teaching conformity, we're teaching the Gospel, learning to be Jesus' disciples. And it is a wholistic relationship with Father, Son and Holy Spirit we're after, and a loving community of believers, not mere rule-following. That's the way to do it! :preach:

I have to say that I don't think basic morality is being taught. Are we talking about being personally moral to ourselves and others? Then I'd say no.

It's sad really...oftentimes people in authority positions or leaders are afraid to truly say how we as Christians should act or how we should live our lives for fear of being branded as judgmental or close-minded. When we look at the way Jesus lived, it was very humbling and moral. Nowadays people think so much of themselves, when you point to the Bible about being charitable, sometimes the crud hits the fan...

Look at the way certain issues are handled in the young adult's section for instance. Premarital sex a sin? Are you kidding me? That's a joke man...it's all about interpretation, and just because your interp. is right for you doesn't mean it's right for me (sarcasm there). I mean hey you can still be a binge drinking, drug-using, sex-crazy, uncharitable bum and still come back to Christ each time you've sinned...
