Reddogs cannot get into the wiki discussion and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problem?

Here's the link: http://www.christianforums.com/t5739473&page=25&nw_show=comments

Please let me know if you can't get access using that link.

Thanks.

I can go anywhere in CF except the rules or Mod discussion wiki, all my systems/IP Adresses whether DSL or Modem wont go through when clicking on the link or thread...http://www.christianforums.com/t5739473&page=25&nw_show=comments

...I hope its just a server issue, but has anyone else encountered it?

Can everyone please click on the link and tell us if you are you getting to the thread....

Ok,

I captured the other error that sometimes comes up when I click on a rules or wiki thread.......

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 25165824 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 1966080 bytes) in /var/www/html/includes/class_postbit.php(300) : eval()'d code on line 234

Any ideas on the cause......

It sends me straight through to the thread.

I have rebooted, tried clicking on the link, nada, tried it with MS Vista, tried it with MS XP at home, tried it with DSL, with Modem, hmm..... the 'black hand' (what I call unresolved network/online issues) has beaten me, unless you them bring it to the main menu I cannot access the wiki.....

Sarah has come by. :) *lol* I PM'd Red last night and found out this morning what was happening. I'll let him know what's going on with the possible changes to the rules, then. No problem.

Sounds like server problems, though Red. Strange server problems. Have you tried bringing this up in the main help areas on CF? Maybe it's not just our wiki that has problems and others are having issues somewhere else?

Red, here's the parts about changing the rules I first proposed about the Sabbath Quiet Time:

Also..what about changing this:

2.5 Due to the multiple time zones, the term "Sabbath" is defined as your local time zone for each individual. Please respect that even though yours may be over, others may still be keeping it.

To this:

2.5 Due to the multiple time zones, the term "Sabbath" is defined as the 24 hour period from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, according to your local time zone. Please respect that even though yours may be over, others may still be keeping it.

Thought that works a bit better now we may have non-Sabbath keepers posting.

As far as the POLL goes, I am happy with 2.1 and 2.2 but am not as certain about 2.3 and 2.4 and 2.5 in regards to Sabbath limitations on both debating and moderator limitations during the Sabbath.

I wonder if we could actually remove the moderator rule (2.4) if the other two are in there? Of course, the mod part comes from Red so I don't want to speak for him in any way. :) But it might not be as needed if people are respecting the Sabbath and sticking to fellowship and study insteady? It really is a mod's choice how they wish to spend their Sabbath..

This has got some real problems:

2. Both the Main SDA Forum and Sub-forums

2.1 When posting a reply to a pre-existing thread, please stay to the topic of the origional post and/or the replies.
2.2 Temporary deviation from the topic will be permitted as long as the integrity of the topic is not compromised.

2.3 The Sabbath is reserved for a quiet time of fellowship and Bible study. During this time period no debate is to take place. This not only allows moderators to rest and relax, but it creates a more positive atmosphere for us all to spend time with God.

2.4 All reports will be left for Sunday, unless very urgent. Moderators will also still be free to offer help if needed, in accordance with Biblical standards.

2.5 Due to the multiple time zones, the term "Sabbath" is defined as the 24 hour period from sunset Friday to sunset Saturday, according to your local time zone. Please respect that even though yours may be over, others may still be keeping it.

Here is how I think they should be written and others deleted:

2. Both the Main SDA Forum and Sub-forums

2.1 When posting a reply to a pre-existing thread, please stay on the topic of the thread/or the replies.

2.2 Temporary deviation from the topic will be permitted as long as the integrity of the topic is not compromised.

----

The reason for getting rid of 2.3 on is because they unneeded and in fact may invite troublemakers to visit the forum at a particular time. Further it is silly to have rules that express you must obey the rules during this time period but our moderators won't be around during that time period.

If a moderator is not around on Sabbath that is his/her business, we all know reports can take days for action anyway so it does not matter all that much if a moderator does not want to do any moderating on Sabbath.

Which is why I was suggesting to get rid of the moderator focused part and just leave the reserved for fellowship and such in. :) That shouldn't attract trouble, should it? And it should lessen any work that mods would have anyway...

The problem with just saying fellowship and study, is there is little difference between study and debate. Is this going to just be a day when people post a Bible text with no interpretation, no application, no opinion upon the verse posted or in question or the topic. That can't even work unless someone says why they are using the verse.

Frankly I don't understand this fear of debate, think about what a good Sabbath school class does. People sharing ideas, interpretations and opinions, hopefully with the ability to back up their idea, interpretation, or opinions which would be the definition of debate.

If people did not want to see any type of debate on the Sabbath then they could go to the main SDA forum which has no debate. Why would we want to say that on the debate forum at a certain time we can't continue a debate, it makes no sense!

I agree with going with 2.1 and 2.2 as reworded and deleting 2.3 to 2.5 inclusive.

If everybody else agrees, then we can create the POLL.

How about we just put the two of them up to seperate votes? In the past each thing was voted on seperately if it dealt with a different subject, so why not this? :) I've seen some people who like the idea of this Sabbath rule, and others who don't. Lumping them together might not leave it fair at the moment.

We can have one poll for rules 2.1 and 2.2, and a seperate poll for 2.3 - 2.5 (Or, as I suggested knock out rule 2.4). That could be a poll option..

I could probably set that up if people agree on this idea, though too. Considering Tall and Sophia don't seem to be around at the moment...

I agree on having a POLL on 2.1 and 2.2 with another separate POLL on 2.3 to 2.5 inclusive.

Also, as you can see, I am able to access this OK.

I messaged Red last night to see why he wasn't posting here and found out the same thing as you, T&O. He says it's not coming from his end because it's happening both at work and home. It could simply be a glitch in the website, or for some reason he's been blocked..? I've seen things happen before with other websites where for a time being certain areas are not accessible for some people, while others are fine. That normally ends up being server problems at the website's end.

Thanks for opening a new thread to work this out, T&O. Very good idea!

For the time being, I had informed him about how some people felt about the Sabbath Quiet time and he told me to post this in:

Tell them this, ...why are they resisting such a rule, no one really comes in on weekends. CF, at least in the Adventist section is most heavy during the weekdays. Having the Sabbath as QuietTime will have such a slight affect, and give such a witness, that it is a real oppurtunity to show our faith.....

Although, if we agree on seperate polls then I guess that can be discussed there.

Sarah, did you get a chance to ask Red about the separate polls idea?

And thanks for stopping by......:)
Not yet, I thought he could view the thread so I wasn't specific in the PM last night. Now he can see all of that from the conversation I posted above this, though. :) Thought it'd be a good idea to make it public because then Red can reply here!

Its not server problems over here because I was able to get into the thread using a different IP Address, unfortunately it is someone elses office and computer, so I cannot continue using it, but now that I know what is being blocked I think I can get around it...just might take a new computer or laptop......

Red, here's the parts about changing the rules I first proposed about the Sabbath Quiet Time:

The answer is simple, we can have moderators volunteer on Sabbath to be 'on call' just as a nurse or doctor that have to continue taking care of a patient, thus both Sabbath is preserved for the moderators and there is coverage in case anything arises. It is not we want to stop debate as they have 6 days to do that or whether moderators cant play catch up and do the work on Sunday, it is that the moderators should have the freedom to worship as they see fit on Sabbath and not be "moderating" according to their personal beliefs.

The rules are good as you have them

2. Both the Main SDA Forum and Sub-forums

2.1 When posting a reply to a pre-existing thread, please stay to the topic of the origional post and/or the replies.

reddogs,

Somebody else had a similar problem and discovered that his service provider had blocked his IP Address from that particular site, therefore you may wish to speak to your own service provider about that.

As far as these proposed rules goes, I suggested we do a separate POLL on 2.1 and 2.2 with another separate POLL on 2.3 to 2.5 inclusive.

I am all for voting in favour of 2.1 and 2.2 but for voting against for 2.3 to 2.5 inclusive.

Yes, but it is only on those wiki links and I have different provider at home, and I noticed it last week so was testing for ways to get around it.....

For the sake of unity, please lets vote them together because on this one you cannot seperate the Sabbath for one group but not for the other. Make a Solomon decision and keep them together, and we all will be blessed. Those that need Sabbath as part of the forum can see that it is being given as a needed part of the forum, and when others have a need they will also be given leeway in the same manner....

Please keep it together, as it will do much good and help us all to unite as we see fair and honest rules being implemented....
