Is anyone else disgusted at a lot of "Christian" music today!

Serious discussion on this please.

Apart from going back to the days of Bach, is there anything truly original and able to impress the secular music public from the Christian music scene?

See my thread on teh new Worship Circus CD. They aren't mimicing anybody, and I am very impressed.

That reminds me of a story as well.

According to legend, after Chuck Norris raped Elton John, Elton could never go back to women again.
Could someone here explain the reason for the negative Chuck Norris comments? Has he done something horrible that I don't know about?

Nothing negative is being said about Chuck Norris. Norris is superhuman, and we are celebrating that fact.

I've yet to hear it. Christian rock just seems to be what people in the world were doing 10 years ago.

Is there anything for example to match Paatos, for depth of emotion?
Or is there a problem with serious music generally in that people will worship the music rather than the creator?
Hey, I love reading the exact same post in multiple threads. Nice.

I don't know about the "Christian music scene," but there are certainly professing Christians creating music that garners "secular" acclaim and a strong "secular" following. Sufjan Stevens' stuff is beautiful, and along with artists such as Pedro the Lion and Over the Rhine, probably has more non-Christian fans than Christian. The Choir has a song included on a CD insert in the most recent Paste Magazine, and they've always made music that doesn't conform to trends. Daniel Amos, around since the "Jesus Movement" days, marches to the beat of its own drum (and is rhythmically more creative than most rock bands, Christian or otherwise), and made its best album with its most recent, "Mr. Buechner's Dream."

As evidenced by active ingredients, he has. However, he has also redeemed himself by revealing to the world that his tears cure cancer. Too bad he's never cried...

Another Chuck fact: Every time he wears pants a warrant is issued for his arrest. The charge is always "carrying a concealed weapon".

Some christian rock these days I agree is not what I would call "Christian". In fact, I can't even tell what they are singing. Still many young people are out there and it is our obligation to try and lead them to the King. Music is a very big ally these days for the faith. Many kids and young adults like what is new and some still go with the notion that if mom and dad don't like it I like it. There are still many good clean acts out there and even some secular musicians who in my mind are singing about the right things. What we should be afraid of is the other forms of media. Specifically, the television and computers. Never before have our young minds been under attack in such a way as today. Pray for our children, they are in trouble if we don't fight for them.

Well if you could tell what they're singing, then maybe that would change your opinion?

i pretty much like metal and thats it. But Sufjan Stevens and Pedro the Lion are amazing.. but im sure many people would not call Pedro the lion Christian. Id like to see... Here are some Pedro the Lion Lyrics for the Song called Rapture and Forgone Conclusions. Great Songs!

Rapture
This is how we multiply
Pity that it's not my wife
The friction and skin
The trembling sigh
This is how bodies move
With everything we could lose
Pushing us deeper still
The sheets and the sweat
The seed and the spill
The bitter pill yet undiscovered

Gideon is in the drawer
Clothes scattered on the floor
She's arching her back
She screams for more

Oh, my sweet rapture
I hear Jesus
Calling me home

Finally a chance to breathe
Reaching for the the fallen sheets
Collapsing in a glowing heap
We've gone too far
We've done too much
We have to quit it
Just one more kiss
Just one more touch
Please ten more minutes

This feels so good
Just barely moving
The tension building
Our bodies working
To reach the goal

Oh, my sweet rapture
I hear Jesus and the angels singing
Hallelujah
Calling me to enter the promised land

"Foregone Conclusions"

i don't want to believe that all of the above is true
but i could be persuaded if you were to give me proof
why don't you come over thursday maybe we can talk it through
as if some new information were possible to comprehend or introduce
after all you and i are nothing more than foregone conclusions
you were to busy steering the conversation toward the lord
to hear the voice of the spirit saying shut the **** up
you thought it must be the devil trying to make you go astray
besides it couln't have been the lord because you don't believe he talks that way
too close to call yet
still so tightly wound around our foregone conclusions

I heard he became a Christian. Is he to be bashed because of his previous image? I really don't know that much about him currently, to be honest.

Thanks!

Take a deep breath, Chief. It's all in good fun. ;) Nothing personal or malicious...

(Geez, I can't believe I actually had to clarify that.)
Huh? You can't believe you had to clarify that comments about a man raping another man or kicking a baby are all in good fun? I have a great sense of humor but you need to think about that.

If you were referring solely to the photo of Chuck with the guns, then I could see that being in good fun, but the other comments - no way.

I don't want to cause a problem here and I probably should not have brought up the Chuck Norris comments given the original nature of this thread, but I was not expecting to see those types of remarks in an area discussing Christian music.

If nobody else here thinks some of those comments were out of line, perhaps I'm on the wrong forum and I apologize.

Oh. Those comments. Well, I didn't make those comments, and I didn't realize you meant those.

But, yes, having been on this forum for a while, I feel pretty comfortable in saying that the poster (blackwasp?) didn't mean anything malicious by them.

So, yes, all in good fun. Absolutely. A little on the brash side, but not malicious. Geez, maybe you are on the wrong forum if you're getting this uptight about that stuff. I dunno... *shrugs*

BTW, did you know that Chuck Norris doesn't read books? He stares them down until he gets the information he wants...

Cool. After I posted that did occur to me. Sorry.

Yeah, I'm obviously new here and was just taken by surprise.

Not uptight. Just expecting something different and like I said above was not prepared for some of the remarks I read.

LOL. Now THAT I can appreciate!

Oh. Gotcha. I can understand what you mean. But, if you think some of us in here are harsh, don't go anywhere near the Creation Vs. Evolution forum... ;)

Yeah foo... I got belted in there quite a few times by some very stubborn and ill informed evolutionists!

Well, I feel ya. But, unfortunately, there are just as many ill informed Believers in there, too. And, I suppose that was my point. We, as Christians, shouldn't be debating whether there is scientific proof of God or not.

To spend so much time trying to scientifically prove the existance of God, or disprove the Theory of Evolution, totally removes one critical aspect necessary in our daily journey with Christ: Faith.

It reminds me of a saying I heard: "For those who believe, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation will suffice."

None of the Christians who spend lots of time in that Forum will do anything but get themselves upset. I've seen it over and over and over. Which is why I feel that is the wrong approach. Jesus didn't walk around touting irreducable complexity. He walked around trying to convince the rich to be generous with their wealth. He gave hope to those who had nothing, and told those who wanted revenge to let go of their anger.

Sorry for the way off-topic rant, there. :sorry: I wish I could think of something clever to tie it back in to the OP, but...
