This oil painting by Robert Nettles was done as a final senior project in a painting class at Mississippi College. The project, containing six portraits, was designed and executed by Robert. The faces, beginning at 12:00 and moving clockwise are J. P. Boyce, John Bunyan, John A. Broadus, William Carey, B. H. Carroll, and Charles Spurgeon. The Logo contains the sword and trowel emblematic of the ministry of Spurgeon, the carpenter's tools in the top third of the shield representing the incarnation of the Lord, the cobbler's tools reminiscent of the plodding practicality of the great Baptist missionary William Carey, and the tinker's anvil calling to mind the great soul of experiential Calvinism John Bunyan.

Unfortunately I am and they are disgustingly Arminian.

I have actually found that while they are more Arminian than I am, they are actually quite Reformed in many aspects. I think that they have a great ministry and it has been a blessing to my family.

On a happier note, I was at the ordination of Pastor Rob Ventura last night--the newest RB pastor!! :amen:

I think I owe John A. Broadus an apology ;)

Hi guys! I am a Baptist and I hold the doctrines of grace, but I am not Reformed (in the sense that I hold New Covenant Theology, not Covenant Theology).

Can I hang around? No, I am not here to argue.....(Saddam Hussein a ReBap? Hah! That sure made me laugh.)

About how calvinists should present the Gospel: I think Charles Spurgeon's All of Grace is a terrific model of how to present the Gospel without "Arminianizing" it. All the passion in calling sinners to trust the crucified and risen Savior and Lord is there, without false approaches (i.e. trust Christ because He died for your sin - is that religious blackmail? lol!)...

I asked this question myself two years ago to another calvinist friend, since most tracts and tools are too Arminian. He told me that the gospel call in the Bible is twofold: REPENT and BELIEVE Mark 1:15, Acts 20:21).

I made a tract before for my church and I hope to share it here next time.Perhaps you can comment on it and help me improve it. I sought to avoid the Arminian paradigms (e.g. 4SL)....

Hey! I know you! I've appreciated your posts in the Baptist forum--keep 'em coming!

I think that we, as RBs, need to present the Word in a way that is very clear. If God be for us, who can be against us? Why then are we so often afraid to tell people that they are sinners deserving of the wrath of God? I think that it is so important to have sinners understand that they DESERVE hell (although most evangelicals don't seem to believe this since they feel that they somehow deserve heaven since they CHOSE God) so that they realize what a merciful and loving God we really serve. One cannot be convicted of sin unless one knows that one is a sinner. . .and knows what sin is. The ten commandments are such a useful way of pointing people to Christ. Other thoughts?

Tell it as it is! Let sin be sin and hell be hell, and man without God is lost indeed!

People nowadays sing Amazing Grace without even understanding it.
Indeed. I sometimes wonder how Amazing Grace would be worded if an Arminian who truly believed in his own theology wrote it. Perhaps it would be something like:
"Amazing Choice,
How sweet I made,
That saved myself from hell,
I once was kinda lost,
But I figured it out on my own,
Was blind, but I cured myself."

It's funny how the Calvinists basher's favorite hymn always seems to be Amazing Grace and I feel like pulling them aside and saying, "Don't you see that this song is the embodiment of the theology that you so dislike?!?"
