Iraqi "Full soverignty" apparently means 135,000 U.S. troops handling security

I've tried supporting the President in this war, but it just becomes more and more apparent that he's politicizing the war. This alleged handover on June 30 appears to be a sham. He's now saying the Iraqis will be self governing in amout a month...

But now can you have full sovereignty if you have an occupying force of 135,000 U.S. troops who will likely be there for up to five years? It just sounds like such a politically motived stunt.

I agree. Of course I understand that the U.S. is concerned about the political chaos in Iraq and afraid of moves for power by "unwanteds", but I think that should be left to the United Nations to monitor. When U.S. officials get to put the Iraqi government into power, veto requests for Sharia law and guide the writing of a constitution it doesn't look like we are very willing to let go. I wonder how this will play out...

I could have told you that Bush has no plans for leaving Iraq. My husband's squadron is deploying every unit to Iraq in the next few months and plan on being there for about 9-months to 1 year, then getting a 6 month break and returning again. Saying that he is turning the power over to Iraqi's is a total lie. The troops that will be over there will be hunting out insurgents, which seems like a clear indicator to me that we are still at war and the Mission is not accomplished.

Uh, we STILL have troops in Germany. Did we fail there too? What about the fact that the Iraqi people don't WANT us to abandon them after they start running things? What does hunting out insurgents have to do with running the country?
