After trying GSSF matches, I wanted to also try ISPC matches, but there are none in my area.

I would say go for it since most people in competitive shooting that I've met have been great. For some reason, most of the jerks get weeded out.

I worked with a guy that was annoying and abrasive. He heard how much I was enjoying my GSSF matches and decided he was going to come show us all how good of a shot he was. After finishing near the bottom, he hasn't been back...

Kinda like sailing; talk is cheap... until race day.

I shoot USPSA (the US arm of ISPC) matches.

You'll see people decked in all kinds of fancy equipment, but just take what ever gun you are used to using. I still shoot a Glock 17 at them and haven't been tempted to get a race gun or fancy mag carriers.

At your first match, take your time and go slow. You don't want to get DQ'd at your first one! It's a run and gun sport, where you have to balance speed and accuracy. I have the accuracy part, but I'm slow and I'm twice as old as the average competitor, so I'll never be great at it. But that is okay because it's such fun...and good practice.

I would go to the website and review the rules : Welcome to USPSA.org - Home of the United States Practical Shooting Association

I personally prefer IDPA because it's more accuracy based and you shoot with your normal defensive gun rather than race guns/equipment.

But both are great!

Thanks for the info. I currently don't have a pistol that qualifies (production division), but have my Zastava sold. I will be buying something when I have the cash in hand; likely a CZ or Sig clone. (there are a number of these on the list).
