  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Ok, this doesn't have much to do with music, but I wasn't sure of a better forum to ask for help in.

I have an iPod and I love it but a few days ago I found all my "sort by" menus out of order. For instance, you can look at all your music by artist, album, songs, composers, etc. Usually, they are sorted in alphabetical order, and I almost always sort by artist. So on my iPod I look up songs by Music->Artist->Album->Song. However, instead of starting with "311" or "A Perfect Circle", my artist list begins with "Professional Murder Music" (!) followed by "Coldplay", and so on and so forth chaotically down the list. On top of that several bands are mentioned more than once (spelled the same), and the same with albums. This leads me to believe there's something wrong with the way the actual files are either 1) stored or 2) accessed. I've looked and looked, and can see no reason at all why "Professional Murder Music" would have any reason to be sorted at the top of the list. It's ridiculous.

I've researched this problem and found absolutely no threads about it on any forum whatsoever. So, in desperation, I've turned to this one. Does anyone with an iPod have any idea of a way to fix this?

I bet it has something to do with ID3 tags (they are pretty much the worst thing in the world) :p.
AAC files (the format the iPod uses) don't use ID3, but some other tag format (maybe APE or some type of iTunes-specific tag? I dunno, I don't use tags). It might have to do with whatever tag there is, though. I don't have an iPod, so I don't know exactly what might cause it from that perspective.

Of course, my desktop computer once had something similar happen to it. Whenever I tried opening a file through Winamp or any other media program, the thing would arrange by date or something like that, but not name (not bad if you're planning on listening to the newest stuff you've put on there, but a major hassle to do anything else). The only remedy I found for that was totally reformatting the machine; haven't had the problem since (which is about 1½ to 2 years, I think).

Yeah, I've had problems with those before too...they are the devil. They've never caused a problem this big before.

i haven't had this happen with mine. did you try reseting it? (hold the center button, and the "up" button, until it turns off)

I've turned it off and turned it back on, but it comes up the same. I've tried plugging it into the comp and synching it with my Realplayer playlist too, but it doesn't fix the problem.
