heh heh

Just buy a flash MP3 player with a huge memory card. It's cheaper, plus you can drop it and you won't wreck the hard drive (like the iPods have). As well, they generally just take a AAA cell instead of a specially designed cell that costs $200+ to replace.

i got a 20g iPod a few months ago.

here's the thing: if you want to put pictures on it, that's cool. But you have to remember, don't get too greedy and just buy the one with the biggest hard drive.

1. you're most likely not going to need over 10-15g. (i got a 20 because i figured it's better safe than sorry) 20G are really a good size.

2. You have to keep in mind that however many gigs are on your iPod, you have to keep all of that music on your computer. It might slow down your computer to have 60 gigs of music and photos.

right now, my iPod has 981 songs, and that uses 4.15 gigs.

It's easy to feel like you need alot of space, but you'll be surprised how much music can fit on the smaller ones. I would reccomend the 20G.
but if you have alot of music, don't get an ipod mini. you don't want to run out of room.

I was surprised, I still have so much room left on mine and I have the 15gb and I am no where near running out of room.;)

I have the 20G. It's awesome. There's nothing else to say except that the shuffle is possibly the dumbest idea marketed in the history of audio technology.

I have a shuffle, I really like it. it's different than my iPod, it's for just casual listening. It's actually gotten me to listen to a lot of music I haven't listened to for a long time. It's not for everyone, but there's a lot of people who really like it.

I've got a 40 gb iPod and I can't fit my entire music collection on there. My iPod runneth over.....

You don't have to keep all your music on your computer, only if you have it set up to autosync. I store all my music on an external hard drive and keep my computer clean, except for my work computer which I have my whole collection on.

I have a 40 GB iPod which has now been discontinued. But all the same, it is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. The iPod's clickwheel is technologically years ahead of the competition. Plus the whole menu system is faster and smoother than any other model I have seen. There are more accessories available for the iPod.

Also, it's only $99 to get the battery changed. My friend has had his for three years and his battery is still fine. In most cases, Apple will not just replace your battery, but will often just replace the iPod itself for the $99 fee, as the internal batteries change over different generations of iPod. I'm not postive on that, but I'm pretty sure I read that on Apple's website.

The iPod shuffle is very convenient too. It doesn't hold much, but it is small and compact which makes it great for short term traveling and such.

It all depends on what you want to do with the Ipod. If all you want it for is music then sure you can probably get away with the Mini, or one of the smaller ones. I have a 15gb and use mine as an external hard-drive in addition to using it as an MP3 player. If that is what you want to do with it then maybe the larger ones are the way to go.

i have a big cd collection:thumbsup:

How do you change it from autosync?

With your iPod attached to the computer, go up to Edit->Preferences and look through the options. It will give you an option to sync your computer with your iPod, turn it off. Keep in mind you'll have to manually copy your music to your iPod then, but you don't have to keep it on your computer (make sure you back up any music you buy to a CD so you don't lose it).

I would suggest you check out the Iriver H320 or H340. They cost about what an Ipod does for the same capacity, offer a color screen, voice recorder, a comparable battery life, 2 headphone jacks, support **USB Drag and Drop** (MSC driver, no itunes or the like required), support more playback formats than the pod and generally look cooler(subjective, I like the well-done fake Carbon-Fiber).

With a quick upgrade to the Korean operating software they will also playback Divx movies at 220x176 along with supporting "USB on the Go" allowing pictures to be transfered from compatible DigiCams directly **Without Computer** to harddrive of player.

Minidisc, it's all about minidisc. You can't go and record a concert with your Ipod...

1. Yes you can
2. That's not generally the primary reason for buying an iPod.

I love sounding like a jerk.
I've wanted an iPod for quite sometime, as my music collection would very nearly fill 20gigs. But I just can't justify spending that much on entertainment...

No you can't record with an iPod (apple limits it to 8 bit recording on the various microphones), but the minidisc is dying a slow painful death. Minidisc is the Beta player of portable music, a great idea that was loved by a niche market, but never caught on with the masses. HiMD is a last attempt, but the iPod is the death of minidisc. It is a shame, I've been recording concerts on my minidisc recorder for 7 years now, I have some fantastic recordings. I'm afraid my minidisc recorder is on it's last legs and the Edirol R-1 is going to be a much better replacement option. For the shows where I have the option I use my iBook with a Firewire 410.
