• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Question: Anyone else ever have found themselves daydreaming ALL the time? I'm almost conviced it's a form of laziness- not getting your way in life so fantasizing having what you want- but I'm still not 100% sold.

On the other hand, I've spent an awful lot of time on this subject- am I just dragging my heels?

I had a stage in my life like that. For me, it was a mixture of OCD, laziness, and a lack of understanding of how to get things done by a certain time. I've since learned how to focus on what I need to when I need to (for the most part. Nobody's perfect.) However, I've also curbed my OCD to a great degree as well.

I think the important thing to realize is that there is a difference between OCD and laziness, but we should be careful not to judge our OCD as mere laziness and vice versa.

Thanks for the help but I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea that one problem can have multiple causes... Can zoning out be the cause of laziness and a problem such as avoiding pain?...

I have used daydreaming as a way to escape my thoughts sometimes. I've also had problems getting things that I needed to done, which resulted in awful grades last semester. What I've since realized is that even though you are tired and miserable from not sleeping enough and constantly battling your brain, you just have to suck it up and get things done. If you are in the habit of being productive everyday then it gets easier once you've done it for a few weeks.
I think everybody daydreams. If you are daydreaming to the point that you don't pay attention when you need to, or to the point that it impairs normal social functioning then I'd say you should probably cut back. I think as your OCD gets better then you might feel less compelled to daydream less. I don't daydream as much as I used to, but if I'm having a really rough time with my OCD I'll daydream that I'm doing something that I like, like skiing, and that gives me a few minutes to relax and change my train of thought. Sometimes interrupting your negative trains of thought is all it takes to keep an OCD spike from getting really bad and ruining your day.
