• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm not sure if you're looking for a job in the ministry necessarily or just some form of employment. In any case, I don't think you should limit yourself on what you do based on your personality. I'm an introvert myself, and I work in healthcare where I am always having to deal with people. It's true it can be very stressful at times for me, but it gives me a chance to work on my social skills (and as an introvert I can always use the work - I'm thinking I'll be working on this all my life).

On the other hand, if you find something relaxing and enjoyable for you, let me know :)

Introverts can be good at listening. That is a key ingredient for helping people with issues. Good listeners often get below the surface issues given time and empathy, whereas extroverted people can often jump to conclusions too quickly, o rjust lack te necessary patience. Also, tutoring, mentoring, support, caring often fit in well with less exuberant people.

Forget the word 'ministry'. Just start doing what you can do with people and expect the life of Jesus to be there with you.

What do you do in healthcare?

I don't generally like to talk (or think) about work when I'm not there because that's part of my recharging ritual. But since you're a fellow Christian and introvert I will tell you that I"m an RN. Now let us speak of it no longer :)

I.T. or computer technician work is pretty solitary. network technician too.

residential water meter reader. residential power meter reader. mail letter carrier even.

a lot of career paths have lessened person to person contact. administrative types, billing, etc.

Lots to chose from!

After thinking it over, I think it is a good idea if you can find something suitable for your inner introvert. As I said before, I work in a job where I have to deal with people a lot, and honestly I do find it draining. I don't think I end up socializing as much as I would like to after work because it leaves me needing to recharge. It would be nice to get off work looking forward to seeing some people for a change instead of wanting to get away from them for awhile.

Hmm, this is an interesting thread. Do a Meyers-Briggs test for temperament or get the book Please understand Me II. I am an INTP or INTJ depending on the day I take the test. I work as an engineer. My dear wife is an INFP and is an RN.

What that means is I am a Rational and don't trust emotions that much. They can do so much harm. But pure logic is dusty, dry and bleah. My wife can read people and is spooky smart about them and she is able to just know so much about patients, who's going to go bad, who's doing this or that, and the smart doctors learned to trust her when she was on floor. Now she's a case manager, and excelllent at that. But mechanical or electronic things? She near hopeless.

The book I told you about can give you some insight into what you would be good at.

God Bless you as you look, and then find.
