• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey new family,

Just found this site and wanted to say Hi. I have been sober now since 12/21/06, and to be honest... things haven't been too great. The only thing that is keeping me sober right now is my vow to God. I went through rehab, but don't agree that it is a disease, much like people don't have a choice to have cancer. While I don't believe in Pre-destination for salvation, I do believe some people are pre-destined to be alcoholics (genetically). I do consider it to be a form of "worshipping foreign Gods", which is whats stopping me from drinking today. God promised the Israelites that they will be redemeed, and I am sure the same goes for me. Sorry so wordy, but if there is anything you want to know, just ask!

Welcome to the forum.

Thats great that you have been sober that long. I too have had many struggles with alcohol. I went to a great Christian 2 month "transformation center"

We learned that alcoholism is not a disease. It's more of a spiritual condition. A person can have a spirit of bondage in them if they continue in a sin like drinking too much.

Keep surrendering everything in your life to God and He will take control and guide you in the correct paths.

2 Timothy 1:7

"for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control."

I found that going to AA meetings helped a lot. It gave me a chance to discuss my problems with others. I was able to hear other people's stories. And we always had prayer.

The forums are cool for general discussion too.

But keep it a day at a time and even a minute at a time if need be.

If you relapse then start over. But if you are honest with yourself and maintain personal inventory then you have a great chance at sobriety.

Keep in mind that the longer you are sober and clean the easier it will get.

God Bless,

Jack
