Systematic theology is any study that answers the question, "What does the whole Bible teach us today?"
Systematic theology involves collecting and understanding all relevant passages of the Bible on various topics, followed by a clear summary of its teachings.
This discipline seeks to summarize the Bible's teachings in a brief, understandable, and carefully worded statement.
The Bible says that everyone who believes in Christ will be saved. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the only way to God.
The adjective systematic should be understood roughly as carefully organized by topic.
The Bible alone should serve as the normative authority for what we should believe.
A doctrine is what the Bible teaches on a particular topic.
Studying systematic theology will help us grow as Christians and make us more mature.

We must study systematic theology prayerfully.
Just as the psalmist prays in Psalm 119:18, "Open my eyes that I may behold wonderful things in your law."
Often what we need is not more information, but more understanding of the information already available to us. That understanding is only given by the Holy Spirit.

We must study systematic theology with humility.

Peter tells us in 1 Peter 5:5, "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."

1 Corinthians 8:1 says that knowledge puffs up; however, a proper study of systematic theology will not lead us to puffing up, but to humility and love for others.

We must love all that God is, all that He says, and all that He does. “Love the LORD your God with all your heart.” Deuteronomy 6:5
Our response to the study of Bible theology should be that of the psalmist who said, “How precious are Your thoughts, O God, to me.” Psalm 139:17
We must rejoice in the study of systematic theology, as the psalmists expressed it.
The precepts of the Lord are right, bringing joy to the heart. salm 19:8
I rejoice in following Your statutes as much as in all riches. salm 119:14

Sounds like you are in a theological program of study, maybe bible college. Systematic theology also serves as corrective pertaining to biblical theology in terms of limiting the excessive use of typology. Consulting denominational systematics is also a great way to quickly learn what a particular church tradition teaches.
