Hi I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself! My name is Rebecca. I'm due April 8th with baby number 2. I live on my ranch with my husband. I am thinking of going to college, not sure yet tho. Anyway I am interested in getting to know all the new mothers and possibly making some new friends

I'm a supporter of all natural childbirth and believe it's the healthiest thing for mom and baby. I've seen so many women unnecessarily induced and/or put on operating tables because they haven't been given all the facts. It still amazes me that more than 30% of hospital births are c-sections and only 2% of natural births end in c-section. I wish more women trusted their own bodies and allowed themselves the chance to do what nature intended them to do.

Any drug you pump into your body poses significant risk to you and your baby. Epidurals - can slow or stop labor progression(leading to c-section), cause hematoma, and infection. Oxytocin/Pitocin - irritation, vomiting, over stimulation, and irregular heartbeat. Cervidil & Cytotec (also known as the abortion pill) - uterine rupture, uterine over stimulation, and death of mother and/or baby. I do understand a medical need for intervention and encourage women to make the right choice for themselves and baby but a healthy young mother and baby shouldn't have their lives put at risk. I am saying this in love, and want mothers to be informed to make the right choice for themselves and their babies.

Anyway srry for going on and on lol :p thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great night and a wonderful week :) God Bless

Dislike. You are not better, smarter or more informed than others just because you decided not to get an epidural.

First nowhere did I say I was smarter or a better mother then anyone else regardless of natural or epidural. I think you jumped the gun instead of listening and trying to understand the heart behind my post. I am a supporter of women rights cause its not the doula, midwives, doctors, nurses who deliver, but the mother who delivers the baby. I am all for woman empowerment and encouraging mothers to do what is best for them and their baby. The facts I provided are proven facts, I encourage you to look in to it and arm yourself with unbiased facts, not just scare tactics that many hospitals use to get you in and out quickly, instead of whats best for the mother and baby, not on whats quicker. Some shows on pregnancy I recommend are Business Being Born, and Pregnant In America ( also see Ricki Lake give a natural childbirth and her views on it). Anyway I am all for women making educated choices for them and their pregnancy, weather natural or not. Also the facts on these drugs are on the web and on the pregnancy videos like some of the ones I mentioned. I hope you have a blessed day!!!

Okay, I just looked into it myself.

Science-Based Medicine » What’s the right C-section rate? Higher than you think.

You and everyone else who is crusading for a majorly low c section rate are missing the big picture. There is not a big first-world conspiracy to rip off pregnant women. The fact is, countries which use more "advanced" birthing techniques have lower rates of infant mortality. Natural birth is great, but your post really sends a message that women who have medicine and c sections are, in your eyes, scared into it by evil doctors or value their own comfort over the health of their babies.

Btw, I saw both documentaries you cited already. They too miss the big picture.

I looked it up too and she seems to be on the money. Here is what some sites brought up:

And you, too, miss the big picture, which is that due to the fact that this medicine is available as needed, we and other first world nations have low infant mortality rates compared to the past and compared to countries where they are generally not widely used or widely available.

The "big" picture is a safe and healthy baby, and mother. The documentaries are true accounts of pregnant woman who "we and other first world nations" are failing them. Pregnancy is not a medical condition as you are lead to believe (that we can just pump them full of drugs and everything will be ok). A healthy human body can deliver a baby just fine. Unless there are complications where medical assistance is required. But women in the documentaries and many pregnant woman on pregnancy forums have and are telling accounts where hospital are inducing them regardless of their wishes and are using scare tactics to do so. Being well informed instead of getting bullied is the best way to go regardless of natural or induced.

Since you are a man and will never go through this and are aggressive towards any view other then your own. This is not a debate zone yet you continue to attack and accuse, instead of having a polite and respectful conversation. Telling me your somewhat closed to the possibility of natural births and lean towards the view that hospitals are the way to go regardless if pregnancy is not a medical condition, but a natural and beautiful thing of nature. Its a gift of God.

Anyway you cant say that natural birthing centers are more dangerous then hospitals. When most natural birthing centers have a much higher success rate by just letting the body do what its supposed to do. You cant say that hospital using drugs (even if not approved by the FDA) on pregnant women, that may lead to death of baby and mother is better. Womens body has natural chemicals that kick in during labor and gives you the freedom of moving around during active labor and giving birth in a position that may be easier.. But when induced you have to lay on your back what could be hours.

F4C was kind enough to find you some links that prove that these drugs may be harmful and the abortion pill is not only not FDA approved, but is warned against using on pregnant women. I am all for letting women be informed and making their own choices and what is best for them and their babies. Every birth either natural or induced is a miracle of God :)

Welcome to CF :)

I'm pregnant with my first baby, hoping to have a natural birth but cautiously open to the idea that I might need some intervention. All going well, I'll be giving birth in a birthing centre as opposed to a hospital, which is run by midwives and where my strongest drug option is pethidine, so intervention won't be as easy an option for me as it would be if I were in a hospital.

I must admit, I'm feeling a little anxious about the birth, but am blessed with an amazing mother-in-law who is a maternity nurse and a lactation consultant, and she has been very open with me about labour in a way that reminds me that it is natural and normal and healthy. I call her everytime I find myself feeling a bit fearful. The thing I keep telling myself is that millions of women all over the world do it every day.

Really? I'm against natural births? Thanks for putting words in my mouth. Arguing with you is like arguing with those people who think the MMR vaccine is the cause of autism. Since you condescended almost every woman who gives birth in your VERY FIRST THREAD, you therefore lose the right to tell me about speaking to women.

Actions speak louder then words. You have attacked and accuse, instead of listening. You have not showed how hospitals are safer, nor have you proven that the drugs are a safer option for the mother and baby, then no drugs at all. F4C showed many medical sites to you, that show how dangerous these drugs are and the higher c-section rate in hospitals compared to birthing centers. So all you have proven is that you will attack that which you disagree, instead of showing any educational value of how my views are wrong. As I said before pregnancy is not a medical condition. When doctors try an pump drugs, instead of letting the the human body do whats its supposed to do and as nature intended, there may be complications. But every situation is different and sometimes medical assistance is required.

But as a man you will never truly understand what we go through during pregnancy nor the pain that we endure for our babies with or without induction. So please either show how hospitals are a better choice and the drugs are harmless or please dont post further. Cause this is for us ladies to talk about our views and rant, and not be judged. I would love for us to continue to discuss this, but without name calling or attacking. Thank you and God bless:)

That sounds awesome :) Congratulations and stay strong hun. Midwives are a great help. Do you have a doula picked out? Yes that's true, but stay positive and continue to get check ups. I am sure you will go through natural child birth just fine. Trust me, on my first child I was scared and anxious too. Especially with me having a low low pain tolerance. But I am glad I stuck it out. You will do just fine hun. If you need a friend or someone to talk to, I am always here :) Anyway good luck and congratulations
