  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The person I am currently "talking to" has a child. The issue is that I am intimidated at the fact that he has to stay in contact with his child's mother.

I am constantly thinking, what if he falls back in love with her? or what if they decide to get back together. where does that leave me?
I cant even compete with his child's mother because their relationship will always be a "special" one because they have a child together.

This is unsettling to me... Any advice.

Hi FBG. We all have a past. Some of our pasts can be let go. However, some of our pasts involves responsibility, such as a child (or children) or decisions we've made affecting our credit, a criminal past, etc. With a child we have to carry that with us. With decisions we've made in the past, that, Unfortunately follows us even if we don't want to.

My only advice to you is that you think long and hard if you want to get involved with this person. You did say that you're "talking to" him right now. So, I don't know how serious you are. Just know that if you do get fully involved you will have to be ready to deal with some issues.

One final note: If you DO get involved with this person don't let the enemy put false or negative thoughts in your head. Let God guide you to your final decision and let HIM be the center of your relationship.

Intimidation is the work of the enemy.

When I was dating, I always make it a point that my dates know that I am a single mom of 4. And for sure, I will be in contact with their father no matter what even if I myself doesn't want to.

If they can't handle that, then we have no business together.

Ask yourself if you can live with this situation, because it will never go away.

Where the heck :sorry: did you even get the idea that your SO and his ex has a special relationship. Uhm I don't think so. The children doesnt make that special, it's between your SO and his ex. And it is between a child and a parent that makes their relationship special.

There is no competition, and there will always be no competition because from the start, you are not really the mother of his child.:)

God bless!!! Be at peace.
