  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Sadly, I'm in the same place you are. My soon-ex hired a large firm and is planning to ask for quite a bit from me.
The important thing in our case as I talked to the lawyer i'll more than likely hire is that she may ask for anything, but with a fair judge true fairness will prevail, and all the other party is left with is a bigger bill for hiring 'the best'.
I was being fair with her, but now I hope that her lawyers bury her in legal fees. I know it's not what I should present as a Christian opinion, but right now it's what's in my heart.
So with any luck you will get a good judge, and fairness will be your end result.

You ask around until you find the best divorce attorney. Call a nonfamily law firm, so they can't help you themselves, and ask them. Paralegals generally know which local lawyers are on top of their game in the various legal niches. If you buddy up to them they will usually point you in the right direction. I know a guy who had a legal issue come up and did this to find a decent lawyer.

Trouble is he has already hired the "best" in the area. And I found one I relaly want to use and she's even willing to take the case at a flat fee (which is very reasonable) but I have no money to pay her yet. I don't know what I'll do either. I have no means of getting one at the present time. And the clock is ticking or he will win by default.:prayer:

The best attourney is usually the second best because there are always smarter people on their way up the ladder. Be careful of who you choose.
Depending on the circumstances of your case and your knowledge of the law, it is possible to go through the process yourself. I am currently just awaiting the court date for the final decree of divorce.

Unfortunately, you do get what you pay for.

That being said, if you have a university with a law school nearby, the law school usually has a clinic for low income people that make too much to qualify for Legal Aid, and they usually handle divorces. You'll have law students doing the legwork, but they will be supervised by law professors who know what they are doing.

That's what my lawyer said - the one I haven't hired yet. lol She said, the down side to him hiring "the best" is that everytime he calls them or she woudl call them concerning this case they'd charge him for half an hour. $175. hehehehe (can you hear my evil laugh??) And if it goes to a trial then it will be SO much more for him than me it's not even funny. He doesn't make that kind of money either. I'm thinking though that he has a "girlfried" and if it's who I think it is she has some money to throw his way. That's not very comforting. It's so ugly - this whole thing. My kids are acting out, I am SO lonely - just for a conversation! And the house is a wreck... I'm just so tired.
