As you can tell, I was not overly impressed with your final line in post #12 which stated Biblical understanding is amazing at times; even though this type of sarcastic reply can be appropriate at times and I certainly have no problems with well directed sarcasm, one still needs to be sure that they first answer the question with Scripture and not by simply picking a random Scripture and connecting it with ones a pet doctrine. My scripture quote is just fine. Interpretation of tongues is equal to prophecy that the church may receive edifying.
If you are just looking for another one of your scripture fights with folks on here, just go away.
If you had of pointed out an obvious mistake in my reasoning then I would have to readily accept a well-deserved piece of sarcasm but instead you have fallen back to the old line of insulting someone who disagrees with you merely because you dont seem to understand the question. After 13000 posts I would have thought that you were above such behaviour maybe it was just a slipup.
Now, can I ask you to return to 1Co 14:3 and explain how you are connecting:
Speaking in tongues with interpretation is "equal" to the gift of prophecy in operation, and that gift if defined as such,..
with
1Co 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and comfort, and consolation.
That is why there is interpretation by The Holy Spirit, so that the body of Christ may understand and be edified, exhorted, and feel the peace of The Holy Spirit around them providing comfort during the message.
From my position and with that of probably the vast (if not all) the literature that has been produced over the past 20 years on this question by reputable academics, verse 14:3 is consistently used to point out that tongues is always directed to God whereas prophecy is always directed toward man (by the Spirit) in the local dialect. with
1Co 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men edification, and comfort, and consolation.
That is why there is interpretation by The Holy Spirit, so that the body of Christ may understand and be edified, exhorted, and feel the peace of The Holy Spirit around them providing comfort during the message.
Lets see how we both go from here....
