1. Dunno. Don't really have an opinion on this.

2. Filters on public schools....those are a touchy subject for me. They probably should be there, but they need to be properly done. My high school had a proxy that was intended for businesses, not school. It would block sites that could be used for educational stuff. Like, if you were doing a report on racism, and you wanted information about why the racists believe blacks are inferior, you couldn't because those sites were blocked. Heck, at one point, all college sites were blocked as "educational institutions". How does that work?

3. Parents. It all boils down to parents not wanting to take responsibility. They just want to put the responsibility on someone else so they can blame them when something goes wrong. Video games, movies, music, and the internet all come down to this. (As you can tell, I'm quite opinionated on the subject)

1) What regulations do you think there should be on the internet in general? Why?
None, The internet is an international things, you can't really enforces rules on it. Assuming you could I still think it would be a bad idea to limit free speech and or expression.

2) Should there be different regulations for libraries and/or public schools?
HonestllY I feel pornography has no place in a school, but if a student is doing research on sex or the porn industry I belive his/her teacher should have the ability to allow the student to visit any site he/she needs to.

3) Whose responsibility should it be to control what minors access on the internet?
Parents and Children

Probably everybody would be better off having two separate Internets - one for general public use and another for "adult activites". I'm on a college computer right now. A fair number of students use the facilities to access trashy material. I completely agree with blocking sites that have no academic or general public use in schools.

None the internet is the ultimate tool of free speech. Futhermore because of its adhoc and decentralised aritecture it is impossible to fully control the internet. It was developed originally as a communications network that would still function when nodes were destoyed

2) Should there be different regulations for libraries and/or public schools?

Schools, no p0rn 'cause the students are under 18. Libaries, yes for under 18's, no for everyone else.

3) Whose responsibility should it be to control what minors access on the internet?

Parents & caregivers

1. I do not think that people should have acces to porn sites without paying. That way children can not be exposed to things they don't want to see.

2. Public scools and libraries should teach internet saftey programs such as Netsmartz (which i discussed in another thread) so that kids are aware of dangers online.

3. Parents, Teachers and providers of net service.

1.) Anyone who wants to have their own website should have to register it through their ISP, so it can be checked to make sure it operates within the law.

2.) Filters on the school computers, but no filters on library computers. The library can choose one or two computers and designate them as adult computers for citizens 18 and over.

3.) The parents

1) Why should I register my Website through my Internet Service Provider ? The ISP is just there to connect me to the internet. But true, my WebHost Provider is allowed to check my site to see if it's running within the law.

2) That is somthing I would like to see, that or filters on All computers, and give adults the password to turn them off.

3) True.

I've worked for a web host (and ISP that just hosts websites) and such an idea is unworkable. Lets say you have 500 websites. To walk through every page and view every file and video might take say 4 hours; Doing a copy & paste conversion between two systems on average takes 4 hours so its a fair guess. So 500 sites * 4 hours = 2,000 hours. Lets say you pay someone $20 an hour, its gonna cost $40,000 extra for you to check the content of each website only once ! Now thats not good enough 'cause a user will make changes to their website and so you will need to rechecked the modified sections after every update.

Also, that law can ever only apply in your country. No one country owns the internet, so to get around that people will just upload to an international server.
