  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Several years ago I read Priscilla Shirer's book, "Discerning the Voice of God." (GREAT book by the way. I highly recommend it.) She talks about how God is persistent and you will sense internal stirrings. She tells a story about how an old friend's name popped into her head and she had the urge to call her. Turns out the friend needed help.
Has this happened to anyone else? If so, how did it turn out? I've been having a strong feeling to contact someone and I'm trying to figure out if these are the same stirrings Priscilla talks about in her book.

jmdis,

Welcome to the site. :)

I’ve experienced spiritual promptings on many occasions. I’ll share a few.

Several years I woke with a heavy heart concerning someone I was estranged from. We’d been out of contact for a few years and I felt a pressing need to pray on her behalf. As I began to do so I wept uncontrollably and pleaded with the Lord for her protection and healing.

I had no way of knowing at the time she was experiencing pregnancy complications and recently lost her grandfather. When we spoke and I shared the experience she asked for the date. I wrote it down because it was out of the norm. She revealed the health issues and we marveled how the Lord used me to intercede. He’s done so many times.

On a personal note, I had a harrowing experience while working on an organic farm. We provided services to a local Christian shelter free of charge. One day I was asked to mow (a favorite pastime) in an area where a dog was usually stationed.

I had an uneasy feeling that would not relent. I inquired from the staff and the instructor if he was locked up. They said yes. But my gut told me otherwise. When I reached the gate something told me to leave the mower outside. I wanted to confirm he was restrained.

Usually when you approached the lock he would round the corner and bark. He never charged. But he’s a pit bull. You leave him alone. In this instance all was silent. But something told me to leave the gate ajar in case I had to leave.

I stepped inside and slowly made my way forward. And then he came. Lord have mercy. I had palpitations. He was a few feet away barking wildly. I turned and ran. But he didn’t move.

My hands shook as I replaced the lock fearing I could be bitten while doing so. Then I saw the mower and began to cry. When I spoke with the farm director and recounted the incident she was alarmed. She owned pit bulls and revealed their instinct in those circumstances. Running would ignite their natural pursuit. I could have been seriously hurt.

I knew the Lord intervened. I was unsettled the entire time. That unease came from Him as a warning. When I had an opportunity to process everything I was deeply moved. He rescued me.

I’ve had other experiences along these lines. When He’s pricking my spirit I’m aware. Its unrelenting. If He places something or someone on my heart my first response is prayer. He isn’t doing it for naught. Sometimes the situation is dangerous and on other occasions there’s a blessing on the horizon.

We are conduits of love and grace. God uses us to minister to others. I would address the matter in prayer and ask for guidance. This allows Him to speak to your heart and order your steps. :)

Yours in His Service,

~Bella
