Well, my uncle found out from my aunt that I didn't study for my exams, and if I don't decide to go to college, he's like well we can try and convince the Catholic Church to let you join a Convent.

Well, that's just about the biggest slap in the face i've gotten! Send me to a convent if I don't go to College?! What, are nuns uneducated?

I wish I had stayed in Florida, my uncle said i'm not a prisoner here, but that I could go back to Florida, but that I have nothing to really go back to. I'd rather go back to nothing, then be mistreated because of my faith, or my choices!

I want to become a nun, but it sure as heck isn't going to be forced on me, because I didn't (not that I won't) go to college!

What do you want to go to college for if you want to be a nun? College is oriented towards a career in the working world with most teaching done from a liberal/scientific perspective. If you want to become more educated just for the sake of it that's fine, but what's more important to you..being educated in the matters of the world or the matters of God? I don't think your uncle is trying to insult you, he's just saying you either do one or the other.

This is really about two things:
1) You not living your vocation right now, which is to be a student. The way you can honor God in this place, at this moment, is to work hard on your studies. It is something you can offer to God, whether you want to do it or not, as a sacrifice of love to Him.

2) It doesn't seem as though your uncle is insulting you. He's wanting you to do your best with the situation you're in right now, which as I said above, is being a student. My sense is that he really does want what's best for you. Love him for that.

Are you being "mistreated" for your faith, or for your lack of work/effort? If it's the second, then that's something you can change. Be careful not to assume a persecution complex. There will be many times when you will be persecuted for your faith, but you don't want to make everyone who disagrees with you your enemy.

If you want to become a nun, if that's truly God's calling for you, then you need to work hard. Working hard always flows out of our present situation. God is using every day to make you holy, and to draw you closer to Him. Learn, pray, be holy.

Doing ordinary things extra-ordinarily well is the key to holiness. WE must do our daily work joyfully and with our very best effort. WHerever it is that God places us- is where we are called to holiness right then and there- for tomorrow and our "future" vocation might never come. That means doing our very best work at school if that is where God has us- or scrubbing toilets with great love and with our very best effort if that is where God has placed us- or being the very best, obedient and respectful niece if that is where God has placed us- or the very best Mom trying to act in a way that is worthy of respect if that is where God has placed us.

"See now is the acceptable time. Now is the day of salvation!"
