  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When the woman in front of me placed her basket on the table, she engaged in friendly chit-chat with the cashier. Until she noticed the Pentagram necklace. She called her husband out of the car to take the kids away

The woman wasn't looking for trouble. Sadly, there are some very, very self righteous "christians". I know a few myself. These people see evil in people who do not believe as they do and refuse to look anywhere else.
Christians should be led by God to do what is right. Not allow themselves to be led by themselves.
I am a Christian and have been all my life. In Australia we have all faiths, and we have so many open markets which are operated by people of other faiths. As a Christian, I cannot see the heart of the person, therefore, I have no right to judge the person, nor to cause trouble in a public place for a person. This is not the right of the Christian, nor is it permissable under the Words of Jesus.
No doubt, when the Apostles of Jesus travelled to other lands and bought goods from people (especially food), they did not cause a public spectacle of themselves by abraiding the person serving them for something they did not agree with. Instead, they would have made their purchase and gone on their way.
Like so with the first Christians. Christianity is supposed to be about peace and love, but, unfortunately, many people preach it, but certainly do not practise what they preach.
In this case, what was done was completely unwarranted and absolutely unchristian. It would also have a big impact on the children who will possibly grow up with their minds instilled with rubbish about people of other faiths.
And that is not good. I speak these words as a Christian.
If a wiccan wearing a pentacle were to serve me anywhere, I would engage in chit chat, possibly note the pentegram but, with the purchase completed, it would be my place to thank the lady and then go about my own business.
It would certainly NOT be my business to cause strife for a lady who had done me no harm whatsoever.

It's not the question of being allowed to defend your beliefs. She is intituled to it, and act on one of the best possible ways.
It is a matter of not going and look for trouble.
I wear a medallion with the phrase "God Is Love". sleep with it, bath with it, only remove it on the swimming pool (because I fear loosing it). I don't remember it getting exposed by an accident, not even during sports.
I meant she should avoid the exposition. But, once it happened, she did acted in a coherent way.
Her necklace being exposed by an accident, while one of yours never has been could be due to different clothing styles. Men's shirts tend to have a higher neckline in general than women's. Also men tend to wear their necklaces on longer chains. I know that I wear my necklaces on either an 18 or 20 inch chain, but even though they start under my shirt I often have to replace them there because they have become exposed.
