I find myself repping more Athiests than Christians lately. Are Athiests more Christian than the Christians?

Coincidently, I've rep'd more Christians than Atheists lately! I've also wondered why some people with massive fewer posts than me have tripled, quadruppled my reputation

That must be because goths are r-e-a-l-l-y b-o-r-i-n-g.

Back to your thoughts? I think Christians and Atheists have decent moral values (and other religions as well). Maybe you're more surprised about this???

Otherwise, I don't know.

I guess I have been saddened by how un-Christian many of the Christians on the boards have been. I guess people may think the same of me at times, too.

I don't think you should be saddened about something like that.
If you at least remain true to yourself and to your god (no other way of putting it for an atheist) then you should feel well. You can't change the way people act/feel/express themselves.

I used to be depressed. Being a goth doesn't always help either (the music,, you know) But if you know you're not doing anything wrong and act in a decent fashion, you're at least doing all you can.

Sometimes atheists do behave better than Christians around here! But I'm not upset by it so much, we're all human and the sooner we learn to learn from each other, the happier we'll be.

An observation- atheists are sort of like "guests" on CF, and are perhaps more likely to mind their manners because of that. I think the people I know on CF are generally nicer than my colleagues in RL.

The debates on several forums are heated. Sometimes you think people want to reach for eachothers throats.

I personally (as an atheist) think that Christian dogma gets misinterpreted by several Christians and this means that Christians will be less patient with eachother.
The number of times I've seen the argument "you're not a true Christian" pop up lately!!

Somehow, I believe that Christians think atheists are just misguided and to be pitied, but they can not muster the same restraint when some other Christian explains the bible in a manner which contradicts there belief.

That's largely the reason I no longer display my faith icon, I was tired of the comments of some of the more conservative Christians. Strangely, despite the fact the fact I'm Christian is still fairly evident when I post, I haven't had negative comments about my faith since I hid the icon.

Well, not just in terms of etiquette. No offense, but an atheist leaping into a religious debate is kind of like a kid trying out a new swear word- less effective perhaps than assumed. Christians on the other hand know better what to say to cause hurt to each other. So that could feed the perception that the OP remarks on.

Sorry for the "sweeping generalities" but I guess I hold a standard up to Christians. If you are going to claim this, are you going to live this. I see people who do not claim Christianity (and I am not talking about people who don't put up a faith icon, I'm talking about people who consciously choose to place the athiest icon) acting in a more Christlike manner. This is not a slam on Athiests as much as it is a comment on the behavior of Christians. Shouldn't Christians be at least as kind as those who aren't Christian? "By your fruits you shall be known."

So much for Ottaia's uplifting thread about rep'ing the "other guy". We are down to namecalling.

As far as sweeping generalizations go, I find that christians tend to take offence much more easily than atheists. I regret it when this happens, as I tend to enjoy the intellectual aspect of the debate, but an opponent seems to be emotionally upset by an argument.

That being said, there are many christians who debate well and are consistent in their beliefs.

for me i find that non-christians seem to be generally more open minded and better thinkers. i think that it is because a lot of people think that faith means that they have to be closed minded, and not think or question things.

I guess I feel faith should be able to stand up to the questions. If I can come up with a question that defeats God then God was not much of a God, huh?
